Here’s what could be the start of a long and glorious thread requiring the assistance of the helpful guys and gals of Retro Rides ;D
Although not altogether new to the car scene (I’ve previously dabbled in all manner of marques with shameless brand un loyalty) it wasn’t until RR07 that all those dreams for a bit of retro made perfect sense. It’s been said elsewhere, but to reiterate – WOW. You all have an obvious great love for your cars and it’s so refreshing to find you all prepared to chat on about your rides with affection regardless of the inevitable time and build “hiccups”. A top selection of metal, hopefully a show that’s going to be around for quite some time and some cheeky track action that starting me on a bit of a head scratch…
I’m of the opinion that life’s a series of ‘needs’ and ‘wants’. It has become increasingly apparent that I ‘need’ a beauty in my life. She needs to be an older woman, happy to go on top on the weekends, of average build but firm in the haunches, with a smoking rack but most of all she’s gotta love, and I mean LOVE, getting through rubbers.
So some rear wheel drive action is on the cards and I’ve “narrowed” the search. “Narrowed” being the operative word as the search has unearthed my dream girl to be a Fräulein still residing in her homeland. (maybe a separate thread along the lines of – do long distance relationships ever work out?)
So it is with light of heart, heady with dreams, empty of pocket and short of clues that I ask if anyone has any previous experience of getting a car across to these here parts?
As far as I can tell I’m going to need transport…duh! This is likely to need to be of the trailer variety as in all likelihood the car will be a project, and room for additional storage, as I’m gonna do a bit of plundering and pillaging for parts whilst I’m out there too. So I’m guessing at boxed car trailer? Car transporter with bed? Or entrusting my lady with someone else and getting her containered over? (not overly keen on this one I hasten to add).
Really though, if anyone has any experience, however small it may seem, I’d be really appreciative. Ideas about when to go, how to get out there on the cheap (chunnel/ferry/amphibious vehicle/hide in the back of a lorry), companies to hire/rent transport/trailers from, if anyone’s got the requisite transport and wouldn’t mind a funded road trip/some crispy folding for the beer fund and an empty driveway, getting a car back (both across the continent and into Britain) and any additional unseen/unexpected costs and issues that could prevent loves young dream.
I’m trying to hold my end up by scouring the net for ideas but as much as the list of options seems limitless, it also presents too much choice and I am hoping that I might get some love from people on here with tales of effortlessinorts importation abnd probkllem free car asourcing tripds…sorry, it’s getting hard to type with crossed fingers…

I’m guessing the real thread issue is the contingency of how to deal with getting the car back if it isn’t a driver. There’s a couple on there with all the right bits, in the right order but in the wrong shed and so would either require Herculanean build up efforts and a rather intimate relationship with lady luck, or transporting back for a bit of tea drinking, biscuit dunking and head scratching in sunny Bristol.
