ok, to start with, a 525i (se?) touring, 1993.
m50 engine, self levelling hydraulics, PAS and a hefty repair bill.
i've the chassis number if anyone wants to go searching parts etc, but heres my Q:
the self-levelling on the rear, well this has sprung a leak. the pipe will need replacing, which means it'll take the flexi's its seized to out too, which pass on to more copper which needs replaced (pitted) and so we're then attached to the hydraulics reservoirs on the rear above the diff and subframe.
now these reservoirs (I'm assuming they are) are ok but the pipes are corroded up to them, and they are unlikely to come free cleanly.
1) are the reservoirs dear? will be checking in AM anyway...
2) do they all corrode? as in are 2nd hand ones available?
3) is this a huge job which would be better replaced with a standard shock setup, which apparently is possible?
4) if i did go standard, do i need different hubs and linkages, or just new shocks?
thanks in advance. i have many pathetically small queries about this car. i hate stuff i cant fix (don't even mention favorit shock pinch bolts to me ATM) [oxyacetalene and big hammer and new bolt/nut required]
