I went to look at a car for a friend of mine, he purchased it thought the engine management light was on and i told him not to, however it is limited to 3000 revs and 70mph, the car is a MK5 Astra Diesel with the 1.9 CDTi engine, he has been to several garages and they are saying Turbo or Turbo pipe but there is no smoke and the car pulls well, it is an ex Bank of Scotland car, i think they have all overlooked the fact that it could be a speed limiter.
I am wondering if anyone knows where they are fitted and what to look for or is it all done by the ecu these days? Any help appreciated.

On the vivaro I belive Its a setting in the ecu flash. One for rev limiter one for top speed. If it's a newish van then it's an eu law that the speed limiter is fitted..if it's the 150 bhp one then there limited to 140mph anyway. Only way to get rid is a remap £200-400 other way is find a breaker that's non fleet get the ecu key etch get an auto spark to program it no limiter.
On the other hand it could be fitted with an aftermarket box that depends how they do it

Had an ex bank of Scotland MGZT no limiter on that. To check it will it stay at 70 if he drops it down a gear or just max out at 3000 rpm in that gear doing 60ish

we had some ex British gas vans they were the same, got to 68, boom no more, no matter what you did dropping it a gear etc. just had it removed at the garage that we brought it from, its in the ecu and they plugged in and removed the limiter

A speed limiter in the vehicle configuration will not flag a mil lamp if as it sounds there are p codes relating to air path it probably has a fault, even small leaks will set a mil on modern cars as will maf or map sensor faults.
