At one point in the not too distant past here in the UK there were all manner of utes on offer from a variety of different auto manufacturers. There was of course the Subaru Brat. The Morris Mini. The Morris Marina. The Hyundai Pony. The Volkswagen Caddy. The Skoda Forman. The Volkswagen Caddy. The Skoda Felicia. And the Proton Jumbuck. To name but a few. Some of the above list i have managed to own (and some i still do own!) And some i have yet to add to my back catalogue. But anyway, this is not the point of this thread, the point of this thread is somewhat less retro inspired. I am wondering if any of the auto manufactures who sell in the UK still have a Ute in their range? I know that in mainland Europe Dacia have the Logan. And Fiat have the Strada. But do they sell them, here? Or does anyone else sell a small Ute here? Enlighten me people, show me new Utes sold currently in the UK... If you can!

Funny you should say that! I drive past aFiat dealer every morning and see these on the forecourt. The wonderful Doblo Pickup. Now if had bucket loads of cash, may be. A seventies inspired paint job and the slotmags, big fat Mickey Thompsons at the back. Sort of like this....... Replace the metal bed sides with wood like this... And stacked exhausts... Sorry its early morning medication hasn't kicked in yet.

There was of course the Subaru Brat. The Skoda Felicia. these two win for me from your list and I would quite happily have another if the right one came along I've had a couple of VW Caddy pickups and a Skoda Fun pickup in the past but never had the Subaru. I don't think the Dacia and the Fiat are UK vehicles, but not too sure

Don't know about Utes but there have been a fair number of Pick Ups sold over here. I can heartily recommend the BRAT, this has been my daily since the new year

Love the Brat! Have had 3 and all were brilliant, on road or off and snow? What snow? But they DO have a nasty habit of dissolving in very difficult to weld places so check any potential purchase thoroughly for tinworms!
Steve
My lottery list includes (quite high up) an Aussie Ford Zephyr MkII ute and a Holden Maloo. Just behind the 66 Pontiac GTO, the Iso Grifo Lusso and the Lotus Carlton!

One that WAS offered here was a pickup that LOOKED like a Polski Fiat or Lada but had a Pug XUD diesel fitted inline with a Fiat gearbox and RWD. Not common when new and most have rotted out now. Can't even remember what it was actually called! A couple of local farmers round here had them and drove them into the ground. But would make a nice choice, rare, eastern bloc exterior and easily tuneable, available Pug engine.

I still badly want one but am fairly resigned to the fact I won't get one here anymore, it would involve a continental trip.

One of them ended up in the scrappies next to my yard, still running and driving but very sorry for itself. But that was a couple of years ago and nothing remains now, I think a tuner bought the engine and box to soup up and fit in a Moggie with a so**ing great turbo on it!

I don't think the Dacia and the Fiat are UK vehicles, but not too sure The Doblo definitely is, our local council use them. Funky looking little trucks.

Good shout bortaf but it's not a ute You're going to have to explain that one ?!
My understanding ute aussie shorthand for utility = small car based utility vehicle with a pick up rear body style
So a P100 would basically qualify ?
What am I missing (other than an odd marble?)

Basically, and I may have this wrong, but A ute is an abbreviation for "coupé utility" which is a term used to describe usually two-wheel-drive, traditionally passenger vehicles with a cargo tray in the rear integrated with the passenger body so the body and the bed are not separate, like the above examples. However, a pickup has a bed which is not integrated with the passenger body, like for example the P100, Toyota hilux, mitsubishi l200 etc. But as I said, I may have this wrong. Hopefully an Australian will be along in a mo to clear this up.

So it's like one of those optical illusions where you can see two faces or a vase? It's either a truck with a car body or a car with a pickup bed? The P100 chassis is different to a Sierra car too. I suppose by that logic the Fiat Doblo is a pure commercial vehicle rather than a converted car design. On the other hand the Austin A60 seems to qualify by those rules.

The term 'ute' has generally always been used to signify a car derived pickup truck, rather than one that is specifically designed as a pickup/panel van only.
By that ticket, id put a Sierra down as a ute, even if the rear suspension isn't shared with the car platform.

I was thinking P100 when this thread opened. But I'm not sure it does. Even tho its a variant of a car it has a different chassis/rear suspension and seperate bed rather than single body design. Intresting discussion the Definition (From Wiki) "usually two-wheel-drive, traditionally passenger vehicles with a cargo tray in the rear integrated with the passenger body; as opposed to a pickup whose cargo tray is not integrated with the passenger body" So i think a P100 should be defined as a pickup rather than a ute Heres a modified Capri ute? pickup? who knows.
