This Carlton has been around a bit on this forum, and was partly restored by a fellow forumite. I bought it when the project lost its way and dragged it from South Wales to South Scotland. Basically, it is an exceptionally clean car which has had a pair of NOS front wings and a full glass out / panels off resparay in the original gold, which was when the project stalled and I stepped in.
The paint isn't concours perfect, but it polishes up well and the car looks mint. The interior is unworn brown velour. The front bumper has a bit of whiteness to it from the aged plastic and the rear is grey, not brown, but it took me a couple of days to notice - and I fitted it! The car came to me pretty much as it rolled out of the spraybooth, still masked in places and absolutely rammed with all the removed trim. Even the seats and dash are in bits because the car has been fitted with Dynamat front to back. I have got as far as fitting the brand new headlights and tail lights, and refitting the bumpers, door strips and sill covers. The rest of the car remains in pieces, though I will endeavour to at least get the door glass refitted so it is waterproof when being towed.
Mechanically, I am assured the suspension (including monroe ride levellers on the rear complete with inflation valve in the boot) is OK, but I would check it and rebuild the brakes before going on the road. The original 35,000 mile engine was smokey so a rebuilt unit has been fitted and was running, but by the time I got the car the distributor and PAS pump were removed and in the boot so I haven't even tried to start it.
Despite my original enthusiasm, the car hasn't grown on me and it has been left in the workshop, unloved. Again.
It really needs a GM nut to spend a long weekend reassembling it - I really don't think there is anything missing, everything seems to be there including all the rare trim. After that either rock the 2.2 automatic thing, or slip in a cheeky v8 for some sleeper fun - your choice, but it will be a clean eighties luxo-barge whatever route you take.
Give me a call on 07717163232 if you want to take a look - I am in Dumfries, SW Scotland. £750 firm in folding cash and it's all yours, every glorious, golden inch of it.
