Hi. Be gentle with me. Long time lurker and 1st time poster. What do you do when your daily driver (v70 d5) drops its clutch and you need a car to get to work? Of course you buy a car with no mot and 160 miles away. No? Wife couldnt understand it either. I wanted another L400 after selling my last one due to rot. This is what is killing most Delica's now. What atteacted me to this one? Its a Super Exceed so loaded, its Silver and most are 2 tone but mostly because it had never failed an mot on rust and the owner had had it for 12 years. Main real reason - it was cheap £400. [

Getting the Delica home turned into a nightmare. After spending a week arranging collection, the owner decides he will only sell if I turn up to collect. Now I wasnt going to loose it so had to get the bus and 2 trains to pick a vehicle I had never seen that had a sticking starter and no wipers. These were the faults he owned upto. After starting it by hitting the starter and using rain x on the screen, I drove home without stopping in the rain. Ok when driving at above 50 but anything less meant cleanched butt cheeks. On getting it home, the starter has been ok and the wipers turned out to be a fuse. Previous owner said a spark had told him the stalk was knackered. Always check the basics. Starting at the front the list of faults are: Missing bull bars and spots Bumper needs painting. Oil pressure switch throwing oil out. Front alcantera seats are knackered. Sunroof not working. Sliding door handle broke. No central locking Swivel seats don't. Every bit of trim is loose or damaged. Wires snapped in tailgate so no lights. Back bumper needs fixing. All easily fixed just needs time. Ohh and for some reason last owner covered it in fishing stickers. Good points. Its was cheap. Low miles and spotless underneath.

I am now saving for a bullbar. I have some nice LED spot lights and a good winch already to go with the bullbar

I think these are great, had a bongo..... but one of these with a pop top would have been awesome (if they'd have made them)
Are they based on the shogun, or is that a myth?
Carry on! John

John I owned one for four years, loved it, it's not a myth, basically the swb delica is a shotgun with a different body, the mechanical parts were cheap as chips ie bushes ball joints etc. The lwb is a bit different I'm told (exhaust longer etc) I've not owned one.

Things to watch like a hawk.
Cooling system, expansion tank, rad, pipework, heater matrixs, water pump. These like to overheat very quickly, if something's wrong or not 100% the heads are prone to crack.
Timing chain needs replacing usually around 100k miles.
I miss mine, but I don't miss the fuel bill. Best ever mpg was 32mpg on a long run, fully loaded didn't really effect mpg.

32mpg. Most I ever got out of mt last one was 22mpg. I got 23mpg out of this on the 170 mile journey back at 60mph.
Last one was run on wvo which this one will be converted to.

Full flush and thermostat change planned this week. The end result is to have an alround vehicle. Camping, fishing and taking dogs and kids out. Something that I can go to after a week and no it will start and take us anywhere.

Do you get the feeling you were not told the truth when you were told the interior was in good condition and just needed a clean? Think this seat is past saving. Time to find replacements.

It's a shame you are so far away. Happy to give my seats away.
Yes cooling is an issue. One of the first things I have done was the cool system. Went over it with a magnifying glass. Yes, heads are prone to crack. My one has only done 125.000 KM (77671 mile)
The LWB is the same as the SWB. Both based on the Shogun or Pajero.

Not so much of a bargain after all then. These days I only buy cars (i only buy bangers or spares repairs) as close to me as possible or else get them delivered, it's too much mental agro travelling hours only to find it not anything like as described and end up returning empty handed.
Always fancied one of these though.
