Off the back of this thread : retrorides.proboards.com/thread/195413/bathurst-improved-production-retros-racing : I went and did an investigate. Which lead me to this : www.ipravic.com.au/ ... which meant I could find these awesome cars that run in the championship (hopefully these let me hotlink)  Ford Telstar? Mondeo surely?    Some Aussie muscle, of course  Wouldn't be out of place on Wangan highway  Audi 80 doing the racing thing  Nissan Silvia not going sideways, but going fast  Ae86  Now it seems there are more IPRA series and these is the one for the Victoria area... so more photos and details will need to be hunted out  but this is a start. |

Improved Production is a great class.
For those who want a basic summary, you can swap any engine you like, as long as it is made by the same manufacturer and has the same number of cylinders, and you put it in the same place. Therefore, one of the most popular types of cars is a 1970s/80s small RWD Japanese car with a '90s/00s turbo engine in it. Datsun 1200s with SR20s, Corollas with 3SGTEs, and of course rotary Mazdas of all types.
The classes are basically "under 2 litre" and "over 2 litre". Turbos get a capacity multiplier, so all the turbo cars are in over 2 litre with the V8s.
You also have to keep the same suspension type and pick-up points, therefore leaf spring rear ends have to stay leaf sprung.
A colleague of mine had a Chrysler/Mitsubishi Galant (the old RWD one) with a 4G63 turbo engine in it. Not a cheap category to run in, but I'd love to do it one day.

Fantastic class, and yes, runs all over Australia! Of late the Honda Civics have been the Under 2L car of choice, with the overs populated with everything from V8 Commodores and Falcon's to the late model turbo weapons.
Definitely not a cheap class though. I have sort of/kind of built my ae86 with ideas of running it in this class but sadly I can't make the sums work. Its pretty much the last place to see a big variety of old cars doing their thing (that aren't muscle cars of course - see Touring Car Masters if you wanna disappear down that rabbit hole!)
