I'm getting near to needing paint for my Minor, and I'm looking around for places to get it done. I have asked a few local chaps and they are really only interested in insurance work on moderns - which is pretty fair as there is quite a bit of work to do on my car and I won't be paying top dollar!
I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat, what to do?
Rather not rattlecan or rustoleum!
I'm in Scotland (Bathgate)

I'd look in your local phone book and ring around a few places. Chances are though, if your not wanting to pay the going rate then they're not going to be willing to take it on, simple as that. Insurance jobs on moderns are a quick and easy turn around with good rates of pay. Older classics/rods/retros etc tend to be more in depth, time consuming and owners can't afford to pay the man hours involved. Try and read up as much info from books/websites and do as much of the work as possible yourself. The more you can do, the less you're paying someone else.

I asked a local paintshop they quoted £500 for a topcoat if it was primed and flatted to 400 grit... so I went and bought a compressor as I'm only gonna rag the Schizzle out of it and cut big holes in it... even the materials cost me £200 odd... tbh you get what you pay for with paint work and if it needs a fair bit expect to pay for it unless you want a sanded by stevie wonder painted by ray charles job.....
