For the benefit of those that don't use facebook or other forums I've copied this. The raceway's own website here doesn't look to have been updated since last year.

It's a curse word situation. It's not got the the probably closure stage yet but it's not a fantastic outlook that's for sure.

The optimist in me hopes that seeing as the factory is motorsport-related they may be open to negotiation about shared use (OK, that's extremely optimistic). The cynical side of me thinks Mintex don't care and will destroy a grass-roots motorsport venue without any thought, because money. I hope York Raceway can find a way to survive this. I am certainly going to a RWYB there soon as I fear we might not be able to soon, and all we'll have left is the Pod

It needs some serious investment and I can't see that happening unless one of the regulars wins the Euro millions.

£10 PER RUN?? For RWYB? That's me priced out, it will take 4 or 5 passes just to sort out what mine is doing!

Not good news, the North has few motorsports venues as it is.
I best get myself there this year, it's been over 10 years since I was last down the strip.

Personally I think the rough and ready, no frills appearance has charm, an honest grass-roots drag strip. But for corporate types it just doesn't look good.

As I understand it that's for unlimited runs. The tenner a go is just for people who fancy taking their car down the quarter mile on the spur of the moment I think. At least thats how I'm understanding it?

I've not been to York Raceway, but if it's anything like my local dragstrip, Shakespeare County Raceway, the coucil will do what they want, no matter what the protest.

At least thats how I'm understanding it? Ah yes perhaps I misread... Still a tenner is sharp! It was £10 for a full day for RWYB at VW Action a couple of years back. Mind you I only got two passes the whole day, bikers were constantly jumping the queue, one bloke cut past me 5 times in the time I was in the queue waiting, his 5 passes to my one?? On the grounds (according to the marshalls) that the "bikes were quicker" and "therefore your track time is the same" - really got me riled did that!

My dragster at the first meeting at York in 1977. Hoping to recreate the pic this year for the 40th anniversary. And racing in 1978

That's rather depressing news. Seems that quite a few established venues have been attacked by Councils and NIMBYs recently and the general response has been one of indifference from the public. Surely it's better to have a safe venue where people can race and get it all out of their system, have some fun, than it is to have nowhere at all?
I hope York Raceway somehow keeps going in spite of this, certainly deserves to given how long its been doing its thing and doing it pretty well by all accounts.

Curse word indeed. I'd better get a few RWYB's in. Always liked the grass routes chilled out vibe at York. I wonder if more shows (maybe the northern retro shows ect) would pull in the punters? Some pics form the early 80s link
