Hello need some help the battery light on my mk1 golf doesn't light up due to a tear in the circuit plastic on it, which resulted in my alternator not charging, Is there a anything I could do to fix the tear as if I touch the piece that's torn the light comes on when the ignition is turned on, could I solder wires in to the connections that have torn or is there another way to get the alternator to charge many thanks

You can get circuit board paint to repair small damage or try the rear screen demist repair paint. Ebay is your friend here!

solder a wire in carefully to bypass the tear. this, done it plenty of times on cortina dashes where the printed curcuit burns out, or just solder the tear back together  |

Both the above work. Conductive paint is awesome but use it carefully!

Conductive paint is no good if the actual film board is torn - as above, just follow the tracks to something solid and solder a link wire. Ideally support the solder joints with a dab of silicon or at least some electrical tape to stop them fatiguing off with vibration over time.

I managed to repair the PCBs in two of them where they kept on blowing the tracks despite having low watt bulbs. |

I have attached a few pictures below on where the tear is located, it's by big red fuse thing , by the bottom pin you can slightly make out a bit of white where it's torn I will get more decent pictures once the dash is out   |

That's a resistor, I think.
I got some conductive glue from eBay when I was trying to repair the broken contact on my heated rear screen. Didn't do much for that, but that was partly because there was too much mechanical strain on it. It might be OK for this application though, as it's not moving around once done. Looks as if the actual contact strip is on the side that presses against the dash, if pressing it together causes the light to come on, could you tape the mylar backing together, and perhaps glue a short strip of something conductive on the track itself?

That's a resistor.
The break... That's gonna be a bit of a pain... Your best bet is to find where either end of the broken track terminates and solder a bridge wire if you can.

If I press down on it it lights up but move and the battery light goes off but I was thinking if I use some duct tape on both the bottom and top so the mylar is between and tight I should be ok, and as a precaution adding a digital volt meter so if all fails I can still check if the battery is getting charge, also I could put a bit of wire along the run for extra support.
