Can't wait until I pick up my latest purchase on Tuesday. It's a 1993 Nissan Terrano Mk1 (R3M). Imported into the UK in 2003... What's peoples thoughts/memories/inspirations/great pics of older J 4x4's? Hit me....

I've got the oldest MK2 Pajero I've ever seen, registered December 1991 (they were still selling MK1 Shoguns in the UK then!) and imported 1999. I've ruined it a bit by taking it swimming but I'm slowly putting that right! It's mega capable but I only use it to play out/go to the tip lol.

This is my 4WD. Mitsubishi Delica 1997 model. 2800 TD automatic. So far so good. It needed some mechanical TLC. The most of it is done. We are taking it for a road trip next week. Nothing to wild. Will be doing about 3000 KM's in about 11 days. We will start in Brisbane then Armidale, Wollemi, Canberra, Thredbo, Sydney, Nelson Bay, South West Rocks and back home.

Hard to find something tougher than an early mkII Shogun/Pajero. I've had 3 assorted ones and work on half a dozen or more local to me. Aside from my first 2.5TD auto Paj dying of trans failure (a previous owner disconnected the trans coolers and I didn't notice till it was too late) I've never had much trouble with them. Build quality seemed to suffer in later years and i've seen several with severe body rot and a couple of cracked chassis on post 94 models.

what a coincedence, me and the swmbo were talking today, and made the decision to sell our 86 mk1 mitsy! its rust free, amazingly, I built and new engine for it 2 years ago, after the crank snapped due to a dud injector, complete everything even glowplugs and injectors, crank pistons etc etc,its done 30k since then, we have owned it 7 years, its been our daily for all that time, and its pulled mobile homes, artlculated trucks, been where it should never have been asked to go, and done it all without complaining, its a rare non intercooler model,no sunroof but working air con,7 seater, We will be sad to see it go and no this is not an advert lol as its in spain but its really to sing the praises of older J 4x4 motors they are tough hard working reliable, best part is its actually got no electronics its all mechanical,so simple to fix should it ever need it, in fact in 7 years i have never had to replace a bulb! oh did just replace the rear uj,but after 30 years thats not to bad lol

Around here, there's still lots of GQ and GU patrols, 60/70/80 series LandCruisers that get taken proper 4wding on regular occasions. They just hold up much better in our conditions than LR chod.

Still a good few here as well, but most are now on hideous 56" chrome wheels and elastic bands,'cos that's how they roll... Oh, and less of the chod, please! I've got feelings too.

i had a years happy, comfortable, spacious, quiet, reliable motoring out of this isuzu MU (a.k.a vauxhall frontera) the only thing vauxhall about it is the vectra engine mind you and being assembled in luton. cavernous boot, split tailgate, mega towing limit, switchable 4x4, better equipped and cheaper than contemporary vehicles, with drivers seat fully back i could still get my 6 foot body in the rear seat behind it and still acres of leg room, double wishbone front, 5 link rear, unbreakable DANA axles, low range box, sturdy body on frame pickup based layout (of the isuzu faster) and more importantly bloody cheap !

I ran this for a couple of years & loved it. 250,000 miles when I sold it, none of the electrics worked & looked tatty, but strong as anything & towed like there was nothing behind. Best truck I've ever driven by far & would love another one (just not the 16mpg when towing..)
