I have the chance of an original MG Metro.
89 I think in British racing green.
Not a car I've ever paid much attention to or particularly been interested in. But now they're thin on the ground, I'm feeling myself being drawn to it.
It starts, drives and stops. However, bodywork is an issue. It's been sat outside, in Scotland, for a good few years.
Are these worth saving ? Or am I better taking it and breaking it ?
I'm being quoted 3 figures for the car but as said previously, I don't have a clue to their value etc and whether it's worth restoring.
Any info appreciated.

Not sure that it makes financial sense to save it but as a fan of these I say go for it.
Shame it's not a MG Metro Turbo . . . . . .

I've recently bought one , I love it considering 10 years ago it was a car in wouldn't look at twice. Fun car to drive plenty of space inside and alot of panels still available if the rust is bad.

It's not going to make you a lot breaking TBH. I've had 2 in recent years, both running and driving, which cost less than 500 each.

Cheers for the info guys.
I'm not sure it's worth it for me then. I'm not that keen on it to save it unless it was worthwhile. But doesn't seem it is. I'll have a good look at it and see how much is involved in getting it back on the road.
I've still not seen the car personally so I'm hoping it's going to be a turbo when I get there!!

If it's under £1000 it's worth it in virtually any condition. Value and interest in these cars has skyrocketed in the past 12 months.
I know someone who just paid £8000 for a decent condition Turbo and know of an exceptional Turbo that sold for £19k at auction. Non-Turbo cars are probably worth half of the equivalent Turbo, but even pretty ropey ones are fetching £2k+ now.

Thanks Strada, I had a feeling the prices had gone up recently but couldn't really find any for sale to have a look. I'll have a look at it and report back.
