Ok, a few words. 1000 miles of rally, but getting there and back added another 1000. We took an Alfetta saloon and a 75 twin spark. 4 days of rally. My 1st time as a navigator. Cracking scenery and some real scary roads. 72 cars started, 70 finished. Lots of.....mini coper S's, lotus cortinas, v8 model A, Audi Quattro, BMW 2002, etc etc etc Did about £500 in fuel and tolls, 750 for driver and nav, inc hotels. Lots of the attendees were a bit clicky..... But we had a giggle, constantly trying to catch the marshal Volvo that was having 20-30 min head start putting out markers. Best bit was a spirited chase of a 100hp bike carb engined imp, around gorge roads with 500ft vertical cliffs. Few more pics   |

Nice video! Cliques can be an issue at these events. Years ago we did the Macmillan 4x4 Challenge and whilst 90% of entrants were great fun, the 10% seemed to have a staggeringly, and unfounded, air of superiority. Obviously, when we were actually competing it didn't matter, you were in your own little world, but at stage briefings you'd get supercilious comments about how much harder it was last year and muttering about how a stock P38 Range Rover was unsuited (I think we proved a few wrong there!) to the job. Just unnecessary stuff like that. It was a treat therefore when, at the closing dinner, the missus stepped up to take the award for the most money raised by a team, getting comments from the chair like, "it looks like a new, and very high bar has been set for the future." That shut 'em up!  The overall event wasn't spoilt, but I just think it's a pretty poor way to behave. Everyone was new once! |
