For hugely reluctant sale, my stunning 1999 BMW 328CI manual with remarkably tidy bright red bodywork and no rust whatsoever. This is a standout original car which has lived in the garage for most of its life and is now just a couple of years away from classic status. It is one of the earliest of the E46 run (and top of the range at the time, pre-M3/330) but still looks and feels modern. It starts, stops and drives absolutely without fault with effortless power and torque, accurate steering and powerful brakes. I have been running this as my everyday car, covering 1000+ very enjoyable miles per month. It's a joy to drive, having a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The alloys were professionally refurbished this year by www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk in Birmingham who I can recommend, with a full tyres-off oven baked paint finish, so they are utterly flawless and will stay that way for a long time. They wear 4 x recent matching Kumho Ecsta Le Sport tyres with lots of tread all round, again fitted this year.
All the electric toys work perfectly - tilt and slide sunroof (watertight), air conditioning (professionally serviced in the spring, ice cold and airtight), cruise control and steering wheel audio controls, electric mirrors, reversing sensors, auto-dim rear view mirror (no leaks), ABS, DSC (old school system, one press to switch off completely), auto wipers, electric windows all round (pop outs at rear), electric memory leather seats, original BMW CD multichanger stereo (currently converted to run an aux cable for mobile phones/MP3 but a 5 minute job to transfer back to original CD stacker if wanted, no loom modifications and the CD hardware is in place) running Harman Kardon hifi (factory fitted) with BMW sub which sounds phenomenal. The original full function remote central locking key is there which also opens the boot, along with a nearly new one that I ordered from BMW at great expensive so there is a fully working spare.
The very clean interior is in beautiful black leather and near unmarked, driver's seat bolster is in good condition, it's a lovely place to sit and still feels exceptionally special to drive. It's also (presumably) a safe place as this had the 8 airbag option specified when new. Everything in the boot-mounted tool kit is present and correct, along with original supplying dealer stickers / number plates for provenance and BMW glovebox torch.
Mechanically there are no faults, as mentioned I have relied upon this as my daily and service my own vehicles. I recently did the oil and filter again with correct graded oil, which I have done every 6k miles per 'best advice' (BMW claim it can go much longer without oil changes, experts differ). The engine does not use any oil or coolant whatsoever, starts on the first turn of the key and has never run hot in traffic. It has returned me mid-30s MPG.
I have a thick folder of bills/receipts/invoices from my stewardship and previous owners, who clearly also took very good care of this car. It has been to good local BMW specialists for servicing for many years.
The car is available for viewing at my home in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, which is between Northampton and Market Harborough on the A508. There are lots of photos here and you can call me on (O)799(O)58.58.6Seven. It is priced at a straight £2500 for a no hassle sale to a retrorides member - I really want this to go to an enthusiast if at all possible.
Thanks for reading,
Chris
