I am writing a piece on the UK version of the 1979 Mitsubishi Sapporo. Does anyone know if they originally came with power steering?

Can't make any promises about the model in general, but I tested a brand new one soon after launch for a friend who was looking to buy one. I was very impressed with the car and told him so! However he bought a Capri in the end. But the car I drove definitely had PAS.

Yes the Sapporo came with power steering and my brochure suggests it was standard for all Sapp models
