So ive just bought a 93 Ford Sierra based P100 1.8 diesel I'm going to be using it for a winter vehicle while the daily Capri is off the road. But the plans will be to restore/modify it next year once the Capri is back. Anyone got any pictures/ideas on what to do with a P100. My current thoughts are 2.9 EFI and a rear twin wheel axle from a transit. And lower it a bit (Alot)

Dually idea is cool, but beware of stupidly low diff ratio on dually axle, something like 5.142/1 IIRC You'll have it on the governor at 55mph in 5th!

Should have used a smiley Steve

You may want to lower it if you thinking of going over 90ish, an awfull lot of air gets under the rear at speed and it gets a wee bit "floaty" lol i did think about a twin rear axle but didn't fancy rear arches and no fronts, i was going to stick a harvey frost on the backend and use it as a wrecker before you chuck the 1.8 try a car gearbox, they have better ratios and it stays on boost when you change into 2nd rather than dropping off and refusing to accelerate , twas the best thing i ever did to mine

I've always fancied a p100. Most of my life I've owned a van or pickup alongside my car. My current van is starting to rot and it's turning into a bit of a money pit. I might go back to having a pickup again. Last two pickups were a ford ranger and a Mazda b2200 but a p100 would do the same job.
What is the 1.8 diesel like for motorway cruising? My ranger would sit at 70mph, but the Mazda had really low gearing, it was screaming at 55mph and it was a fight to go much faster.

Mine likes to cruise around 60, it'll do 85ish but you need ear defenders it's geared to pull the full 1 ton capasity, hense the low diff and lower 1st and 2nd gear in the commercial box ratio set. Unlike most pickups of the era ford just threw together what it had laying about, transit rear axle and gear ratio set combined with an underpowerd car engine, remember the 1.8 was made for FWD use in the escort (origionly a 1.6 non turbo).

Mine sat at 70mph happily the 75 miles i drove it home. Anything faster than 75 and it was a bit loud but could do it. Nice and modified in the standard cosworth style.
