Basically the same as the Mk1 Ibiza, but with a boot. Fiat Strada/Regata underpinnings built in Spain with a VAG group engine. This was at the time when Seat had just be bought by VAG and were "crossing over".
Ok cars. The facelift ones had VAG switchgear as well and were better built than the equivalent Fiat product. Not many left now but I'm quite sure there is more than 1!

That site and the DVLA records can be a bit hit and miss with models but that record for that model, the XL, shows it as the only one registered for the last 6 years for the UK road. All the others have gone. If it's RHD then it probably is the last one of that type.

I've helped a few on their way in the past. Oh how I miss scrap yards like that! Many a good day spent risking your life trying to remove some random part from the car at the top of the pile,

Got to be safer than Alton towers, at least you know you'll get hurt. Miss those yards.

Yeah happy days,it was a weekly ritual for me round two or three local yards to see what was new in.
I remember pulling a MK1 Astra fuel tank from the top of a 4 car pile which involved partially jacking it up on the roof of a Marina estate underneath. The Marina roof was caving in slowly as i worked, mental really !

Every yard I went into I could guarantee that all the polo, golf, audi etc drivers door handles were missing (those days before the internet). There is a decent one near me that was hanging on to 90's-2000 stuff and some old tin but even that now seems to have turned into plastic and tyres in the most part. There was a resident, stripped of all the good bits, MK1 transit camper which you could hear rotting if you listened hard enough. The last time I went someone had played golf with it with a bucket.... probably wouldn't move any other way. I was always amazed that I could be sitting in either a concours vehicle or a total hulk type wreck and the amazement would be exactly the same!

I think my record was 8 cars high, in a yard in West Drayton (now a housing estate) Pulling a petrol tank from a Super Minx to bodge into my 64 series 1 Humber Sceptre cos even then I couldn't find the correct one. It would have been about 1975. I really miss the days of the yards you could wander around and walk out with a starter motor in 1 pocket and a dynamo in the other - and buy a 1500GT Cortina engine, in running order, for £12! as I once did, to re-engine my blown up 1340cc Consul Classic.
Just one more fun thing the health and safety czars have ruined!
There is a yard near me where I still have "wandering rights" by virtue of 30 years knowing the owner. I'ts a good acreage and has a fair number of 70s and 80s cars present in varying stages of decay, but no stacking any more!
