In two weeks time myself and two friends will be finishing up piling spare parts and mars bars into the boot of a Dolomite, ready to head to the start of this year's CT RBRR with about 140 other Triumphs and their mildly insane crews. For those who haven't heard of it before it's a 2000 mile trundle around Britain (funny that...), starting from North London (well, Knebworth this year so stretching the definition of London a bit- it's normally Enfield), up to John O'Groats, down to Land's End and then back to the start. The fun part is it's over a weekend, starting about 6pm on the Friday, breakfast on Saturday JOG, down to the other end for breakfast Sunday and back to the start for a late tea! 2000 miles, 48 hours is something like a 42mph average speed, bearing in mind it's far from all main roads it adds up to quite a lot of pretty hard driving- more of a test of the cars than perhaps it first appears. We took part (successfully!) in 2014 so thought we'd come back for more! Anyway, I've put a bit of a blog together with a bit (lot) of rambling on about the car's history and restoration, our prep work and general faffing about in the run up to the event, and hopefully updates as we make our way around the country! If you fancy a nose it can be found HERE. Obviously it's a charity thing, and has been since the early 90's (the event was first run in '66!), the charity changes every year and this year it's in aid of Guide Dogs. If you are feeling generous and want to throw a bob or two our way our Just Giving page is HERE. Anyone else on here taking part? I know a few folks have before Cheers! Matt

You are quite mad..... in the best possible way. Having completed the event myself in 2008 I know this for sure......
Since then I try to convince myself that I have learned my lesson by marshalling somewhere late in the event so I get to see the crews staggering about with their eyes pointing in different directions - which reminds me why I don't want to do it again! I now stick to the 10 Countries which is just as mad (or maybe worse) but a bit less painful.
Good luck to you and see you at Badgers Holt on the Sunday all being well.
Nick

2000 miles in a weekend, you are mental! This sounds brilliant and I will follow your blog with interest. Good luck and I doff my hat to you

Thanks folks! Will look out for you up on Dartmoor Nick, although I make no promises on being able to remember your name by that point or for that matter, mine!
Good run out to the driver's meeting today, car has a bit of a flat spot but is otherwise running well- booked in for a rolling road on Friday so hopefully get that sorted then. New suspension has made it a more pleasant (i.e. less jelly- like) drive so that was a success.

I'm booked in for my fifth and the Heralds 2nd RBRR. Just to warn you, it gets a bit addictive... Yeah, we only intended to do it as a 1- off and we're already talking about getting something different for the 2018 run (ideally something I can fit all these blummin' low offset 4x95.25 wheels to!). Have you still got the Acclaim? I have a pair of new track rod ends for one in the garage- a long story involving shocking quality aftermarket anti roll bar drop links, needing some fine metric thread nuts in a hurry and a very helpful motor factors about this time two years ago! Incidentally the track rod ends don't have any nuts on... I'll bring them with me on Friday if I remember! All good fun.

Pretty much ready to go- see some of you over the course of the weekend!
Probably won't be posting updates to here but will try and keep the blog updated en route (that's kinda the whole point really).
Wish us luck!

Well, we made it! Bit of a struggle this year, I was ill on the Saturday (just a cold but combined with the lack of sleep made me feel pretty damned grotty) so the other two had to do the lion's share of the driving which we hadn't expected. And half of the exhaust- about the only non standard bit on the car- decided to fall off, which was a bit annoying. But despite that we managed to hit every Control within the time window, happy with that. Still knackered now mind...

Well done! A good friend of mine does this too. Am I right in saying it's every 2 years?

Yes it is, RBRR every other year and the 10CR on the years in between (10 countries in 3 days, but you do actually stop to sleep on that one!).
