I saw this advertised on here & absolutely loved the funky styling. I fired a message over to Damien & after a few messages we agreed a deal on the car I had for sale. He was really cool & agreed to meet me half to save me a longer journey. We met, did the deal & I trailered the car to my unit. So these are Damiens pics. I test fitted the wheels I bought with the car & the offsets & sizes are perfect. SSR 5x114.3 17x7.5 et29 + 17x8.5 et32 The car was very slow to start so I tested the battery. It had 12v but when cranking the voltage dropped to below 7volts. I had a spare so I charged it & fitted it. I then did another voltage & crank test. 14.6 volts & hardly any drop on crank so hopefully that's sorted. I then had the car moted. Only thing I asked them to do was sort out a leak from the exhaust. It's always nice to buy a car, mot it & have no advisories.

I'm looking into what springs I can get to fight gravity. I'm looking at Subaru Impreza wrx springs either classic or bug eye. I'd like to go 2 inches lower. I've read that you can use scooby coilovers but I don't want to drill into the strut tops. I've sorted a few issues I had when I 1st bought the car. The steering column tilt didn't lock properly so I stripped the cowling & sorted a lock pin. The only other issue I have is the drivers side window cable has stretched & the window doesn't hold up in the runner. My 1st plan is to remove the stereo & fit a new cd player & the speakers are blown so I'll change them all out for some I have in my garage.

Is this the one that was for sale in Hertford? I really really wanted it, and it coincided with a trip to Hertford to see family. I had to stop myself. Looks really good in white.

Great looking car! I have it's predecessor (the XT Turbo) and love it!
If it's still running it's original auto transmission be sure to change the oil and fit an separate oil cooler. The gearing is a bit long and the design of the transmission is quite old and not suitable for the power output of the EG33. Fitting a cooler and keeping on top of the fluids should help the trans survive.

Nice to meet you too fella (top dude, shame we didnt have more time for a beverage). I knew the wheels would be spot on, I feared fitting them would have resulted in me keeping the car! Also great news on the MOT, zero advisories for the win!!! If you want coilovers long term, keep me posted and I can always help with the fabrication. I was tempted to replace the strut tops with impreza ones to avoid the drilling of holes. However I don't think there would be any detrimental effects to drilling new holes in your strut top as there isnt really any load on the holes, they more to locate it. You could always plug weld the old holes? joostvdw we need to see your speedo right now!!!

Have you got a link to coilovers please? Great looking car! I have it's predecessor (the XT Turbo) and love it! Fitting a cooler and keeping on top of the fluids should help the trans survive. Thanks for the info.My power light is flashing a code which says my shift solenoid 1 is at fault but I don't seem to have any issues with the car. Any ideas what that means? Wheels do look great but i don't want to fit until it's lowered as there is a big arch gap. I'm going to do a bit of research & have a look underneath to see where I go next. If I can fit wrx springs I'll go that route but coilovers would be great.

Gave the car a clean before going to Castle Combe today. I left the car in the car park & every time I went back to it I was having chats with people looking over it. One guy even asked if it was a kit car as it looked so 'oddball' Drove it properly today & I can't believe how well it goes & how hard it pulls. I'm seriously impressed with this car.

Today I went down to 'cars & coffee' at Queen's square. It was amazing to see so many amazing & rare cars. It was also funny to see loads of people taking pics of my humble little car. Stood around talking to people about it for ages. Then this afternoon I gate crashed a local subaru meet & was surprised how welcome I was made. Apparently my car would be the 1st SVX registered in the SW scooby club so that was nice. I took the car for a bit of a hammer up the motorway to see what it could do. 80mph it sat at just over 1250 rpm & at a very naughty 120mph it sat at just over 2200 rpm. I think this car could go off the clock & still only be at 4000rpm. Then this afternoon I decided to fit my wheels & go for a test ride to rest the suspension & check tyre balance. I'm going to change the tyres, go for a wider & taller sidewall, but offset & size look perfect. I think for now I'm going to buy some coilovers & redrill the shock tower as it needs a little lowness.

These are so cool, it's a shame weird stuff like this has died out. One of my mates bought one when he moved to Scotland, by all accounts it was epic on the open roads up there in all weathers. Unfortunately the gearbox developed a fault and it ended up being sold as spares/repairs as it was uneconomical to sort it out, so I can only echo the points above about looking after the box.
