Havent posted anything on here in a long long time, but I'm actually getting some work done on one of my cars so here we are... I've owned my caddy about a year, but its been in my possession for about 4 years. Back in the day it was my works truck. It was tidy enough, sign written, standard 1.6 on mag choked carb. that engine soon met its demise when i cooked it sitting at 5k revs in 4th gear. So i converted it to a 1.9tdi from a mk3 golf, on a land rover pump. that lasted 6 weeks as i had the wrong gearbox on the car, overeved it and minced a lifter. This moves us onto my ownership. My boss didnt like the fact I kept breaking his caddy so he decided it needed to go, to me. Hes sold me the blown up caddy and I managed to find a mk4 AGR 1.9tdi golf for 46 quid. I had a mess about with the ecu but couldn't get the TPS to work with it properly, giving up on the electronic side of things, I thought I would see if the landrover pump fitted. It bolted straight on. so now we have its RRG guise. Painted Engine bay 1.9TDI AGR motor on 300tdi bosch injector pump 5 speed box from the donor golf Intercooler taken from my mates turbo integra corsa b radiator there is other stuff but its hardly worth mentioning, I've already bored you enough. Now out of all the mechanical things I've done to the car, alot of it can, should and probably will break. So after going up the hill (slowly) twice, I hardly expected my spring seat to snap off the shock on the way home. But there we are... Ive already got some cheap ebay coilovers to go on the thing which is the annoying irony. But more infuriatingly, I never did make it to the pub on the way home. P.S. Before mentioning, I know that: strut bolts are wrong, wheels are hideous, car needs polishing and its slow. In a Bizzle my Nizzles.

The 300tdi pump is a Bosch casting the same as the ECU controlled injector pumps on most vw's. Your 1Z will be pretty much the same as my old AHU motor, which means the center bore of the pump mounting bracket will need machining out to suit the pump, this is something any machine shop can do. It was purely by chance i tried it on my AGR motor and it didn't need modifying at all.
If you google MTDI there is loads of information on it. Some Americans have used old 4 banger cummins pumps, apparently some perkins ones fit too. One lad even put two feeds per cylinder and used the pump from a V8 scania bus on his.

I love MK1 Caddy's. I've had two, one rotten (ridiculously so) and one solid one that I regret selling (for a ridiculously low price too). Did my first engine swap on that one, stuck some leather recaros in it and really can't remember why I sold it. Shame about the spring cup, but at least you have the coilovers ready to go on. Get that axle flipped with some blocks on, and you're on to a winner. Teledials would be a nice touch

Today I thought I would do a little digging. The truck wasnt exactly as good and as powerful as I was expecting at RRG. I put this down to bad tune/timing, as there was loads of boost pressure for the truck to play with. The EGR Is nothing but trouble for any diesel engine and this was no exception... It kind of explains the complete and utter lack of power beyong 3k rpm. Thats the EGR mixer itself. And theres the inlet manifold. The port side of the manifold wasnt much better In parts, the residue was over 20mm thick. soaking the manifold in neat degreaser, jabbing it with a screwdriver and molesting it with a toothbrush, resulted in a not perfect manifold but a hell of alot better! Ill make a small replacement adapter to go where the EGR mixer once was this week. Moving on! I refused to replace the now shagged tire as I despise the wheels that are on the truck with a passion. After browsing about I decided that I wanted steel wheels, specifically 16" Renault ones. Managed to grab 6 of them at the scrappies for £60. Two of them are slightly different hole pattern but 4 are the same. 4 of these: Ive ordered some Toyo Proxes T1R's for these to run every day. The other wheels are from a scenic and are identical in everyway except for the slightly less appealing hole shape. Ive got two of these and theyll have Federal RSR's on them for when I go to the track and such. About 10 years ago I sprayed the bumper on a friends Astra and the paint company supplied the wrong colour to the code. Ive since had ten tins of Vauxhall Glacia blue sat on my shelf in the garage, I thought I would paint up one of the steels to see if I like it. It is actually blue but the picture makes it look silver. I think I like it, I can also repainted them at the later date. The truck didnt have a cooling fan on it for the gathering and it was getting toasty on the hill and in traffic on the way there. I already had the ebay special fan on the shelf and finally got round to fitting it. Only problem now is I have to remake on of the boost pipes as it was in the way. Finally, just two pics found online of the truck on the hill. In a bizzle my nizzles.

Been making bits this afternoon. The wheels needed spigot rings, which are no problem to make, but the front needed spacing by about 10mm which would mean I lost the center bore of the hub as it only protrudes 12mm. So I figured id make some 10mm hub centric spacers with the meganne center bore built into them. I didn't have any billets kicking around, only some 150x15 aluminium flat bar. SO! first thing was to grab a mandrel from the store room, clock it up and drill 4 m12 tapped holes @ 4x100 PCD. Then, the flat bar wouldn't fit into my machine vice, and I really couldn't be arsed getting the machining plate out so I pitched out the holes on the flat bar my hand and drilled them on ye olde Herbert. NEXT, I put the mandrel into the lathe and clocked up the face, it wasn't ideal as i think it had been beaten with a hammer a few too many times, so I faced it off to be safe. I then bolted the flat bar to the face of the mandrel and got turning. Which left me with these. Taking the mandrel out and sticking soft jaws in, I turned the face to have a 5mm shoulder in the centre at 60mm to suit the renaullt wheels. Once done, I took out the centres with a 50mm drill. Then I simply needed to bore the center out to 57.1mm to suit the caddy. Which left me with these. They still need Deburring properly and such, I might anodize them tommorow if I can be bothered. I could have made these faster on the CNC mill, but I had some paying work setup on there, priorities and all that jazz. They only took about 2.5hrs all in anyway. I also whacked the toyos onto the rims so I can fit them up. Ill need to spray them all some point this weekend tho. More tomorrow! Chris
