As the title states.
I'm currently in the process of parting out my E36 and looking for a new project to start. I'm looking for something older, 80ies ideally. Ideally something that I can fix up nice and that can take over daily duties to replace my Audi once it's to my liking.
Currently on the table are three cars that I've been offered.
1. Mercedes Benz W126 300SE
The car started life as a early 280SE but at some point in it's life it got swapped to 300 SE mechanics and later model exterior. It's green with a green interior. I've seen the car and it's relatively clean but does need a bit of work. The car is on historic tags, so tax is relatively cheap and insurance will be very cheap as well. It's also converted to run on LPG fuel and a liter of LPG costs about 40 cents or so. So it would be super cheap to run. It doesn't have an a/c, though. It's an auto, which I prefer. Seller wants 1800€.
2. BMW E34 520i
I have not yet seen the car in person, only in pictures. It's calypso red, has an a/c and is allegedly rust free. It's a manual though, which would make it unsuitable to take over daily duties as I get annoyed quickly driving manuals in daily traffic - it's the reason I sold my previous E34 after only 6 months. So either it would have to stay as a fun car or be swapped to auto. The engine also would have to go since the 2.0 is terrible. Would have to be swapped for a M50 2.5 or M52 2.8. Guy wants 450€, which is pretty cheap. I also have suitable wheels for this sitting around, my BBS RFs.
3. BMW E30 316i
A friend is getting this base spec E30 4-door soon as he needs a few parts off it - I could have it for 500€ with it missing the rear bumper, speedo and other small things. Would be the ideal base for a M60 swap or some other cool swap. Car has had all the rust damage welded already but still needs paint. As much as I like the E30, it is awfully small though and so not really what I'm looking for at the moment.
I'm really undecided. Mainly, I'm just looking for some guidance to point me in the right direction.
I've been driving BMWs since 2008. Exclusively at that, until last year which is when I bought my Audi. Something to change things up a bit more would be nice, but I wouldn't say no to another BMW.
I'm also very open to other options, but I'm really not sure what I want, haha.
Like I said, ideally I want something that is older (so it's not as filled with ****ty electronics like my Audi), relatively big and comfy and affordable to run so it could replace my Audi as my daily once it's done. I want good parts availability, so that pretty much removes anything really obscure from my list. I don't want to spend that much for the car, ideally under 1500€ since I want to built it into exactly what I want. I've entertained and discarded thoughts of older Audis, 100 Type 44 and V8 D11 mainly due to parts availability. A BMW E32 would be fine, a E23 would be even better. I could also see myself in an Opel Senator, but with those you have to weld faster than you can drive else it rots away under your butt. American land barges are not an option as they're rare in Germany and parts have to flown in.
Any other interesting cars that I'm overlooking?
