My latest and likely last project is a Matra Murena. Fancied another after a 2.2 but emoted by this a few months ago. Originally a 1.6 but now sporting a 1.9 16v conversion, this car seems quite well known. Some period pics are found here- www.matrasport.dk/Cars/Murena/Conv/P1.9-16v/index.htmlAn eBay sale in 2014 I think when it was in poor shape (and in faded red from its original gold) and Vandal damage (damaged front valence, rear boot area and rear bumper, smashed tailgate glass and rear side window) this year means there is quite a bit of work to do. The last PO had refurbished but not refitted the interior which I have now done and replaced the glass. Car turns over but doesn't start - but cannot hear any fuel pump priming so will start to investigate there next. Needs wing mirrors- going to fit California Vitaloni mirrors(original mirrors are a little fragile and not easy to find). Only the drivers mirror was with the car (currently for sale). Odds and sods interior trim and door furniture Refitting bumpers and bumper trim Tidy up the vandal damage Sort the engine! Car is still MOTed until October but doubt I will get the work done by then.
[/Thanks

Cheers. I have been lucky to have owned a 2.2S before but stupidly sold that and then a bagheera. This one is a keeper. Love the shape and they are just so hard to find.

Managed to work on the Matra :- Refitted vandal damage repaired rear bumper Carpeting fitted in cabin , engine space and boot area Headlining fitted - what a pain... Front bumper strip and nose rubber refitted- needs tidying and plugs fitted Repaired vandal damaged rear boot area and front valence Odds and sods to interior refitted/fabricated. New door seals fitted Vitaloni door mirrors fitted- car did not have original passenger mirror so I sold the drivers side to fund purchase of this new pair. Almost time to get into the engine work and work out why the engine won't fire. Last PO said it was running but fuel pump was faulty- could be true as I cannot hear it priming when ignition is on (it is the 1.9 16v engine from a 405)....

Don't know how many about, but all were imports and all bar 5 I think, lhd. Finished off the rear for now - not perfect and the body repair is quite poor but limited resources at hand (including time). Did manage to start the engine- sounded great revving but stalled after doing so. Would idle fine from start up. Lots of gauges don't seem to work, perhaps from the conversion ...? And some very iffy wiring to sort out- but happy it ran ok.

Great car and engine, I have the same engine. Is the engine standard?

None standard engine. Should be a Talbot Chrysler 1.6 engine. It is a 1.9 16v from a 405 mi16 I believe. However the writing is very mixed up as two looms are in place in the engine bay- one from when it was running carbs - which looks a professional aftermarket figment as all the cabling is labelled and a loom from a bx 16v which is the one currently used that is less well labelled.
Managed to get car to start but clearly some wiring is unsafe - when ignition is on, the fuel pump runs continuously because of a very dodgy bridging connection in the loom.
At the mo- car will start and idle but after revving the engine will not settle back to idle and dies. Only a few of the gauges also work /or have been spliced into the Matra loom.
Sounds glorious though when revved.

Great write ups. And yes those seats even recovered are very soft and squishy. The centre seat back folds down for an arm rest. Some models had passenger footboards for 'energetic' driving too.

I don't think I've ever seem one of these. The three seat arrangement across the front is bizarre. More akin to a builders van than a sports car!
Looks like an XU9J4 from a BX in there?

I like these cars from the first time i ever spotted a Bagheera as a kid. Cool car Thread bookmarked. What are values like on these? There are either very few or none at all here in Ireland.

Yes the engine is a transplant - period mod in the early 1990s- 16v mi16 engine. Suspect air leaks explain the poor idle. Car was originally a gold 1.6 - all early murenas were gold for the 1.6 I understand. Values? - not easy to say as they are not often for sale. Recent projects on ebay are around 1K or so? Good cars anywhere from 3-10K (for a nice original S spec model?)

Small update - checking over car from front to back. Front - replaced both upper ball joints and freed off the brakes. Fortunately the lower ball joints are good as they are a tough job to change. Found a split hose on the headlight vacuum feed which should explain why the headlights failed to lift and the engine was running poorly (bad idle). Rear- one side looked at so far. Rear trailing arms are excellent and look to be fairly recent- which is fortunate as they are very expensive to change. No rot found yet only surface rust easily dealt with. Rear brakes look ok and recently serviced too. Pics to follow.
