Finally got round to finishing sorting out my FoS photos. Managed to get 2000-odd down to only the 650 or so. Some of them might even be worth looking at. Funny, but I found I felt more well-disposed to the Festival running through it in celluloid (ask yer dad) than I did at the time. Maybe it's cos the sting of the wallet-rape has had time to subside! I had a bit of a feeling of underwhelment (is that a word?) at the Festival this year. Dunno why... it seems to more and be turning into a venue to sell overpriced brand new abrges to the great and good (and preferably landed) gentry of the land. Every year brings the same cars and a "theme" that's manipulated to match the cars that always turn up anyway. And has there not been a succesful motorcycle racer since Barry Sheene? You'd think not... Anyhoo, it's still the most astonishing range of race/road automobilia you're going to see in any one place, even if it feels a bit of a cash cow compared to the early days. But nothing stays the same, after all. So here are some of my favourites in random order of no especial significance. And maybe some stuff you might have missed... ^^ 07:15 Thursday was where my personal Festival started (and finished late on Sunday; teeming rain and the place to myself. Almost eerie seeing the Hill so quiet and deserted And… …start! I realise that one's a terrible photo ^ but it's the only one I have that shows of the preposterous curves of the 540K Streamliner. And at least there aren't too many fools holding up tablets or mobiles in the way ooooh, look, a rotary! but lo! what lurks in yonder corner? ^^Tazio Nuvolari was famously given a golden tortoise badge by Gabriele d'Annunzio, a notable author of the time... awarding "the world's fastest man the world's slowest animal". I can only assume the li'l chelonian in the cabin of the Mazda 767B is some kind of tribute. I'd love to know for sure, anyone know? It is, apparently better to light a candle than curse the darkness. If you own an 1898 Benz both have a similar usefulness. Which is to say, very little I dunno which car won the Style et Luxe ...how can you compare an 1898 dogcart to a late-20th Century Lamborghini anyway?... but for me the Lancia Astura cabriolet was the most beautiful thing in the place Four days of polishing will do this ^ to a man! (love the various Avions-Voisins; bonkers aircraft-inspired lunacy) lots of Barry's bikes. So, just like every year, then So much love for this, just because it's so wrong!

Avions even came with an Austin-Allegro-alike Quartic steering wheel! only ze Germans would have such a beautifully-made oil can hidden away in the engine bay ... on it's own perfectly-fitting plinth, naturally It might just be me getting older, but I find myself more and more drawn to the pre and post-WWI behemoths. It’s the combination of brutal excess and obsessive attention to detail, I think Not all the trade stands were selling overpriced "apparel" to Tarquin and Tamara, some actually had something to do with cars. I have so much want for one of these billet compressor wheels Likewise, you could buy a diorama of what your Mancave might look like were it 1:18th scale. And included a 300SL Gullwing or 275GT. Nice to see the legendary ZL-1 Camaro nameplate resurrected. Once the hottest of factory hotrods, you could only get an original one via the COPO dealer dodge and it ran elevens off the showroom floor! If you hiked up to the Supercar Parking area you could see some stuff you'd have been happy with seeing at a show in their own right. And a lot of Range Rovers... Even a random lone Alvis! Anyone else slightly aroused by a MkI Astra GTE? Thought so Yes. That's a lot in CCs. pucker up... Honestly, the Veyron had challenging enough looks but the Chiron has a face like a cat's ! Pah! Spirit of Ecstasy? No-one did joie de vivre like Renee Lalique! The inimitable C hrysis sculpture. Yep, really. Well, she does look like she's having some kind of crisis, no? Stingray... proper Sting Ray. One year only, the '63 split window This is the carnage that resulted from the Swiss-watch precise Delage having a rod interface with the crankcase here last year. The Brooklands restorers had it all laid out on display…chained to the bench. Well, it can’t be easy sourcing parts for a 1920s Delage straight eight, you don’t even want knackered ones getting tealeaved Diablos in the Cartier Style et Luxe… …and in the parking field. Instant kudos DB11. Before even Bond gets his hands on one ...nicer in grey than brown

As always, McLaren were stalwart FoS supporters with all manner of exotic and sometimes barn-door vehicles on show For when any old boring Ferrari simply isn’t exclusive enough, why not have a Mansory Siracusa FXX? If you even have to think about asking, you can't afford one Errrr….what? Just beautiful. Even in the curse word rain Mars rover! And why the fduk not? Mud. Did I mention the mud? Eleanor's little sister, Ermintrude The one millionth MX-5. And that’s a lot. Like, really a lot, especially when you consider it’s a two-seat sportster, not a unbiquibox Mom’s Taxi Actually, there were a lot of MX-5s around the Festival, come to think of it. As usual, Mazda coughs and shuffles its feet nervously if their glorious Rotary heritage should be mentioned. Kinda like weird Cousin Cleetus who lives in the attic and feeds on any live pigeons he can catch, we don’t talk about the Wankel… Still the lap record holder round Brooklands. Guess it always will be, unless someone buys the land back from Tesco. Heritage site, you say? Where’s that then? *cough* Monza *ahem* More weird French weirdness. Ooooh, look, a rotary! All hail Saint Steve of Hislop ^^ Old. Icon. ^^New. Hideous

More weird French weirdness. The Renault what won the first ever Grand Prix! Nice doormat carpeting Ooooh, hang on a mo, I’m having a crisis! Hnnnng. No apologies for excessive amounts of photos of the Type C Auto Union. What a bloody thing! The good thing about being there early on Thursday is that many crews are still setting up, so I took full advantage of sticking my lens in where it wasn’t wanted as they were sorting the Type C before the barriers went up. The fearfully polite German techs were far too civil to tell me to bleedin’ do one whilst I ligged around inches away from a genuinely priceless icon That car is just pure art. There’s nothing on it that isn’t utterly essential but everything on it is awe-inspiringly beautiful. Engineering craft raised to an artform. If it doesn’t get you wet you may be already dead …and another piece of pure filth. Just downright car porn. The Vulcan. Gorgeous Yes, that's a chevy small-block in a motorcycle. No gearbox; he had to run it up to speed and then kick it off the stand. Wonder how he got the nickname "Michigan Madman"?... Why’s he taking photos of a tree and a helicopt…oh. I see. That’s not normal… Probably the most gorgeous shape never to see production? I reckon it’s a close contender Same could be said for the quad-cam, really Damn, that went on a lot longer than I expected! Sorry about that. There’s (as always) too much to select just a couple of photos. Something for everyone, then, I hope. More (much, much more) here; s668.photobucket.com/user/Nik_da_Greek/library/Goodwood%20FoS%202016?sort=9&page=1Take a look, if you’ve time to burn, lol … and the last word; proof, were it ever in doubt, that an RX-7 actually is practical family transport. Four-up, so there (admittedly two are small and one’s tiny, but nonetheless. And it never got stuck in the mud!) Thanks for looking in. Until next time, go away

Absolutely splendiferous photos and captions as ever Mr Seven. You never disappoint me with your most illustrious posts. Oh but as for the new Ford GT having the best rear lights ever? I shall refer you to your photo of the rear end of my 1959 Impala at the FoS in 2007 in the Cartier bit and er rest my case. I win. Think the Miura won the Cartier this year but don't kill me if I'm wrong.

Paul You make a strong case I was perverted by watching le Mans this year, and seeing those eerie GT lights disappearing into the murk on the Mulsanne left a profound impression. After all, there's no real reason to have the centre of the light as a carbon fibre duct to vent heat so the LED ring looks like a fairy glow suspended in thin air... ...but then, there's no reason not to (photo shamelessly stolen off the 'net)
