So yet another project to the line up in the form of a mk2 Escort. It was last on the road in '98, someone has fitted a full x-pack wide arch kit, but i'm not so convinced with it being a 4 door. The very very very good news is that it is a really solid base, but I have never been a ford man so got plenty to learn, not even sure what cc engine is in it, it's a cross flow with a misfire that's for sure Here she is;

I love randomness like this. It always makes me wonder about the history of the car, with some guy standing building that years ago and what it looked like then. I mean, you just wouldn't get a guy building a 4 door x pack rs2000 in this day and age, cool.... More photos...!!

Have a look on the block, right hand side down near the bottom. Ends in AA it's an 1100/1300, BA is 1600 Looks like a fun project, I love the RS2K front ends. Also Australia got the 4-dr version of it so a rep wouldn't be too far fetched

That Gunson thing is awesome!! Did I see that the rear door is now unable to open? I'd remove the handles and fill them in myself if so. Like the red one below. Wouldnt do the door shuts though. DSC_2257 by quickrack, on Flickr

When it was dropped off it was running very badly, possibly only two cylinders? So I've done a compression test on each cylinder, Compression test is pretty consistent and within range, however there were two very oily plugs.... The rocker cover gasket is shot and appears to have filled cylinders 2&3... Now I have turned it over with all plugs and some oil has come out but not a lot, but with the plugs back in, leads on - she is still just about running on 1 or 2 cylinders. I was assured by the guy I bought it off it ran sound approx. 2 years ago as it had an overhaul(minus rocker gasket)its got a fresh cap, points, lead, plugs etc. So could it be there is still oil in the cylinders? if so how do I get it out? Timing out? valve stuck? Any xflow experts on here?

Lows, black steelies, rattle can paint job in a dark satin grey and that would look evil. I'm liking the open grille look!
Whatever you do with it you can't go wrong with a mk2 Escort.

EDIT: I'd replace the rocker gasket and do an oil change, then get it running and let it idle if it will. Then if you've still got oil in those cylinders i'd suspect sticky valves etc.

DSC_2257 by quickrack, on Flickr Door still opens and the kits has been cut, I've made a decision to do a 4 door RS rep minus x-pack arches - I've now got a set of steel front rs wings and standard rs nosecone

Check the valve clearances and have a good look at the valve stem seals while you are there. If they are all good check the pushrods, just in case.

Love it, and it's certainly different! I'd be very interested in the wheels if you decide to change them!
