Have an older vehicle - Live within or fancy driving within the area encircled by the M25, that will be (at least) £200 for the day please! Have I done a click on a Daily Mail? Your link doesn't actually say any of the stuff you wrote. The idea that I will be charged at least £200 a day to drive (times 3 for each of our cars) is frankly laughable. A grand a day? LOL

EmDee that's how much it costs NOW to drive a non compliant diesel van within the M25. Why would they want to charge you less to drive an equally polluting car??? So yes 3 x £200 a day or fit particulate filters at a cost of £3000 then have it checked twice a year at additional cost. Again all FACTS check for yourself about the costs of doing business in the existing LEZ

As far as I knew the ULEZ scheme
a) Excludes historic vehicles (ie pre-73) b) Will cost £12.50 a day for cars
So I'm a bit confused by your post

It costs 12.50 currently if your vehicle is compliant in the case of HGV's's with the whatever the current exhaust emissions are. If it isn't then the fine is £200 per day, same as the normal LEZ.
I think what the plan is to extend the current ULEZ to cover the normal LEZ area, but with cars and anything else that isn't currently covered by emissions regs, all coming under the same umbrella as HGV's. I guess the details of how this will work will be part of the Mayors consultation.
Edit just read the link in above post. I get it now, only HGV's to cover the old LEZ the rest as in his link. Thats not quite so bad then unless you live in central London of course. I knew about the HGV bit as my boss got information on this ages ago, and it means getting a new truck basically for our London runs.

Having said what I said, we need to be on the ball, as many other cities are considering similar schemes. You only need to look to other European cities to see whats happening over there. Just because we're not going to be in the EU, doesn't mean we wont take up their "daft" ideas.

Sounds great. I don't live or drive any where near laaarrrndaarrn anyways. Maybe not but if you live near any other congested town or city then you can bet that your local concillors are taking notes. At the very least I'd be wary of buying an older deisel if you planned on keeping it for any length of time. Here in Manchester we nearly had a congestion charge a few years ago (they put it to a referendum) and I belive they're planning traffic limiting ideas when the new mayor gets in next year.

Just to clarify - this is not a reference to extending the congestion charging zone but changing the EXISTING LEZ (low emission zone) that covers most of the area encircled by the M25 to apply to cars it already applies to larger vans, campers and HGVs The existing historic exemption is not on a rolling date unlike road tax so you need a pre '73 vehicle to qualify. The info I posted was pulled from a variety of different websites. Official link showing daily charges for those saying it's £12.50 a day tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/make-a-payment#on-this-page-0BTW the daily mail is an excellent paper....for lining the rabbits hutches;)

Yay all 8 of my cars fall into this category and I live inside the existing LEZ zone, looks like I might need to move or never leave the LEZ

That extention of the zone really takes the pee, I'm just outside the m25 and i know thats going to effect alot of people, it effectivly puts up a brick wall for alot of buisiness. Ill certainly be avoiding the area now. Id never really looked into it before now, and as of now I'm not interested in looking into it again.

ATM it only affects Diesel Commercial vehicles. But staying within the LEZ won't help! A good mate lives in Ruislip within the LEZ and works as a mobile mechanic. He has had to spend upwards of £2k to convert his 2002 VW VAN (not HGV) to DPF just to keep it outside his house, never mind using it to pursue his business. Apparently the GLC or whatever they call themselves these days knew what he'd got and where he lived and wrote to HIM. The alternative at the time (about 2 years ago) was to pay £50 a day and leave it unmodified or buy a newer van. Since the regs keep changing and ever newer vehicles are getting excluded , he elected to convert his existing vehicle to the most modern specs. Did he get any government or GLC help with this expensive mandated job? Don't make me laugh! Many cities around the world have already instituted something like this (Paris springs to mind) and many others are considering it. I wouldn't shrug it off or say "it won't happen here" Even though I don't care personally as I rarely visit London the threat is very real. But the classic car lobby in Britain is bigger and louder than almost any other in the world (except possibly the USA) If we do make ourselves heard, we may get an exemption for "historic" group cars and that's probably the best we can hope for.

There's nowt worthwhile in that there London anyway! Just 'spensive houses! lol Luckily I own one such house, funnily enough I was looking at what else I could get else where........ two bed terrace to 5 bed detached elsewhere It will be interesting to see if it creates delivery hubs where by you transfer from a non compliant vehicle over to an electric or hybrid delivery vehicle. From Transit to Tesla Van* *trademarked Or just hybrid vans, I'm not sure why they haven't really appeared yet? The real issue is the costs for business such as coach companies who operate and have yards inside the zone, I know it's cost my cousins/uncles business thousands and thousands as they are based in Greenwich and have been for decades and decades.

there are electric transits about, seen a mk7, don't know anything more though.
its owned by a local records management company and ive seen it around cardiff quite regular, i also see half a dozen different tesla model s daily.
transit chassis looks ideal underneath for an electric drivetrain like a tesla.
