I love my Mustang, but it's a convertible and I'm more than happy with its performance and looks. What I'm thinking is that next year I may invest in a Sierra Sapphire, hopefully a 2wd Cosworth minus engine, and stick an injected 302 in it. The reason behind this - it'll hopefully make a quick, reasonably practical, BIVA-friendly toy for when I want to go for a trot down the strip. It wouldn't need any suspension or drivetrain/brake mods as the standard stuff should more than do the job, possibly with the exception of uprated springs, and hopefully the shell wouldn't have to be modified as it'll use the standard box, so I should be well within the 8-points rule. Just wondered if anyone had carried out a similar conversion? I was thinking Cossie because it'll have the T5 box already fitted, would it just be a bellhousing/clutch swap to bolt the 5.0 onto it? Also, is there an aftermarket ECU that'll work with the later roller-cam 5.0 as I'd rather not cannibalise yet another Fox Mustang for it's engine and loom. Cheers, Anth.

Don't know how similar the engine and shells are, but ford south Africa built the xr8, a v8 sierra. so might be possible to use all standard parts. Or maybe you can get some ideas from the focus conversion www.kugelkomponents.com/focus/focusv8.phpTtfn Glenn

Can't see why you are worried about BIVA bover it's just an engine & box change as long as you don't cut the bulkhead or tunnel to make it fit? Have you checked prices of Cossy shells lately?

I bought a pretty much mint Sierra cossie 4x4 shell for £1500 but when I say shell I mean a complete car minus engine/box/rear calipers which was imo well worth it, my original needed so much welding a)it would have taken forever and b) it would then be a completely welded up cossie that would have looked like a nail and always needed more welding. That was going back 3 yrs ago though. I reckon that's a fair price to budget on. There's a few lads done the conversion over on Passionford, worth a look.

Meant to say as well if you do get a bare shell and need bits then I have an absolute ton of interior/exterior parts available.

Thanks, I'll have a look on Passionford The other one I was thinking about was an LS motor into an Omega Elite - could do it with Holden parts and the base material would probably be a bit cheaper than a Cosworth.

That's one hell of a quality build, didn't he put a viper engine in one as well?

Better idea.......................really nice Omegas are much cheaper, and the V6 versions have better brakes / suspension than a Sierra.

T5 box's from V8's have stronger parts inside, a four banger box will die behind a healthy V8!

my 2c of useful drivel - DIYAutotune in the states does a cost-effective MS2 plug & play ECU kit for the 5.0 86-93 mustang
XR8 showed the way - so go fr it!
