Hey all, I thought I would start something along the same lines as all the other picture threads, though this time to see crazy clean or amazing customisation of the undersides of cars... I'll start with this mk2 Cortina from Stanceworks. A personal favourite...

I admire the work that makes the underside of cars that nice, the only downside is you find that people who do this don't enjoy their cars because of the fear of getting it dirty or damaging it

pretty sure the orange Mk1 gets driven, albeit not with chrome plated discs, but sure it gets driven.

Whilst I admire the work that takes its just not right really is it?? Most cars from the 60,70s and80s were never that good from new I went to a cortina show about six years ago In my mk2 with a crowd of mates, the fella next to us spent the whole evening with his cortina in a tent polishing the underside......my idea was to drink lager eat burgers and enjoy the company, then give the car a quick wipe over in the morning,I ended up winning best cortina super that weekend! Concours just ain't for me,clean is fine concours is ocd....

There's no way I would go as far to clean the underside of a daily car but for one that I intend to take to shows or call restored, the underside would need to be tidy and looked after, my girlfriend and I have been looking at buying a mini for her and beetle for me recently, we've see so many "restored" examples where the engine bays and undersides looked untouched and filthy or covered in rust, is it my standards are high or they're labelling their cars wrongly? With classic cars it's especially important that the underside is good otherwise its going to the tin can factory. If you're going to claim a car is restored you do all the car, not just half of it or some of it. We'd get fired if we only did some of our jobs rather than all of them right? Yeah some of these are extremes and are advertising pieces for companies but I can appreciate the effort put in, when I go to shows I'm often the one on my hands and knees checking out the undersides of cars, sometimes the best details are below. I'm far more impressed when someone achieves something like this in their own garage, it says a lot about the owner/builder. If your engine bay looks like this...why not do the underside as well, it's all about taking it to the next level, I dream of having a car this clean.
