Looks a very nice example, well bought, you'll have to get used to every other MK1 giving you a wave now It's a second series V-Spec by the look of it and it's kept it's Nardi gearknob but lost it's wood rim Nardi Torino wheel. The gearknobs nearly always go missing at the docks ! Should have a viscous LSD too. Have a pic of my first series 90 V -Spec,not much difference but the second series had the stainless speaker surrounds and leccy mirrors.

You're correct, the Wheel has gone walk about at some point. I would like to get one for putting in the loft just so I have one for future value! I actually like the leather MOMO more, my old 1.6 v-special series 1 had the wooden wheel and I didn't really like it. That was also an Auto. So this is my first proper MX5! I do plan on taking all the Nardi stuff out and adding a load of JASS performance bits to the interior. I'll keep the Nardi gear to one side for the future though as I know how many of them have gone missing over the years. I didn't know it had the VLSD. To be honest, I don't know much about Diffs. I head read that all the 1.8s had a torsen LSD but then I had also read that only those from 1996 or something like that come with them. I'm not one for burn outs and going side ways so I'm sure the VLSD is more than fien for the odd track day and weekend blast. I've got to get my new AD08 Yoko tyres fitted and I will just enjoy it for the next year or so before I do anything major! Jack

The VLSD are often not working now and have just reverted to being an open diff anyway,no big deal though. I was in the opposite boat, had the Nardi wheel and handbrake sleeve but missing the gear knob, took a while to find one that wasn't daft money for a bit of wood. I like the Jass performance stuff especially the vintage dash but i've resisted and stayed stock so far apart from a voltmeter and a clock out of a Porsche 944..i need a stablemate to mod really !
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it,it does look a cracking little car.

These Miatas/MX-5s/Eunoses are getting a bit too common around here it seems!
Yours does look lovely however!
I was originally attempting to look for a Eunos, but in the end I got a UK car as it was very well cared for ;something it seems it is hard to find these days!

I'm putting the fact they are getting a bit more common around here down to the fact they are soon going to become a very sort after car ChasR. Buy them now before they sky rocket and become another over inflated classic car! People on here tend to be in the know about cars so it's a good purchase! Thats what finally made me do it, i'd seen every other car I like from this sort of decade slowly slip out of my budget and could see these doing the same! highvoltage, just mod yours and keep the standard stuff to one side. I wont be doing anything that is impossible to change back! I just want a few subtle and tasteful mods that suit the appearance of the car. Jack

Took my new Eunos out for a sunny Saturday morning drive over the weekend to get a proper feel for the car and give me an idea of the direction I want to go with it, or if I want to modify it at all! The suspension at the rear feels a bit suspect when on the B roads, it has a bit of a spongy bounce to it over bumps that feels a little bit unsettled, but nothing too worrying. The tyres are also lacking in performance! They are fine for day to day use but they aren't brilliant. So now I'm looking for a nice set of 90's alloys to match the period features of the car, and will be investigating face road suspension kits to try and smooth out that rear bounce. Jack

yes they are a bit common, I only bought mine as it was cheap and round the corner. They are great fun though! No doubt once the boyracers have trashed the rusty ones and ruined the rest the price will go up!

Exactly @chrissyb. I am on MX5 Nutz and a few facebook pages and the amount of them getting broken for parts, scrapped because of rot or getting riced by the scene kids is crazy. I'll be keeping mine reasonably stock in the hope of it appreciating over time! I have just bough my first mod today though...sourced a racingbeat type-v style bar. I am going to look into getting the stock cabin brace welded into it to make a bit of retro style hoop. Jack

I'm like a child! I picked up my first new part for the Eunos last night and couldn't wait to get it fitted. The second I got home I had all the tools out and started stripping the interior trim out to get it on. My new Racing Beat Leather style bar. It's actually a type - ii, so a later design of the Type - V that I was looking for, it's a lot less box shaped, more rounded. It also doesn't work with the standard interior cabin brace as due to the design, a large mounting bracket fouls on part of the original brace. I am still in two minds on getting something fabricated to get the two to fit, or if I should just sell the cabin brace! I do like my new style bar though! Looks so much better than just the brace, and the leather cover really suits the car. Jack

Nice photos, how were the in motion ones done? I had a threaded inset added to the centre of my roll bar so I can fit a tripod head.
I hope values go up, might placate the wife a bit, but I don't thing I'll be recouping what I've spent any time soon.

Nice photos, how were the in motion ones done? I had a threaded inset added to the centre of my roll bar so I can fit a tripod head. I hope values go up, might placate the wife a bit, but I don't thing I'll be recouping what I've spent any time soon. There is a lot of post-production work gone into the photos. The car was actually parked and the camera was on a tripod at the side of the road zoomed in on the car. I used a remote trigger to take the photo and then did a lot of work in Photoshop to add the motion. The original here to ruin the illusion! haha As for values. I think they will start to climb slowly over the next 2 years. I use to own a 1993 106 Rallye. I sold it for £1800 in 2012 with 120k on the clock and it was a cat D accident repair in 2004, although it was very clean and you wouldn't have known unless you were told!. I have been keeping an eye on the market of those and seen them climbing to the £3-4k mark this year. My old one sold to it's newest owner last year for £2000. So even my old Cat D example has gained value as a result. I think in 18-24 months we will start to see less of the rusty ones and scene kids will have moved onto something else cheap to destroy, the original MK1 will then start to appreciate. I'm not selling this one though. It owes me so little, i'll just keep it as a weekend toy if I ever get anything else.

Made a couple of other little changes to the car. Removed the sun visors. Being over 6ft tall and in the original seats, I sit too high up and the visors block my view. They are also very curse word, and cover far too much of the windscreen when they are down and if it's sunny enough for the visors...my roof tends to be down so its pointless anyway! I picked up a set of visor blanks from Jass Performance so it looked better with them out! I also swapped my front number plate for one of the sicker ones. Unfortunately, I messed this up!!! It looks alright from until you get up close. There was a persistent bubble that no amount of heat and squeedgy work would get out thanks to the fold it had in from postage. In my frustration i ended up stretching the vinyl and putting a big crease in it. I'll order another one and get it changed in the future. Just hope it doesn't take too much paint off with it! Even though I messed it up, I'm still happier with the look now it has the stick on plate! I also spent some time over in North wales over the weekend with my mate, clearing out his unit so we have somewhere to work on the cars together and taking the cars up to Horseshoe pass for a bit of a drive. I was there mostly to get photos of his Audi 80 Quattro 13579719_10153534401976682_2019411383_o by Jack Mason, on Flickr But I also grabbed a quick one of mine to do a very quick photoshop render of my vision for the car over time. THis is how I want it to look in the next few months. I just need to get my finger out and actually spend some money on it! Thanks for reading. Jack

That Audi is gorgeous, has he got a thread up anywhere for it? Unfortunately not to my knowledge. He use to keep blogs of his previous cars, but I don't think he bothers any more. I have a few more photos of it though: Box Lines by Jack Mason, on Flickr Quattro by Jack Mason, on Flickr 13582300_10153535119376682_92134241_o by Jack Mason, on Flickr 13575543_10153534305531682_1324567491_o by Jack Mason, on Flickr He's had 3 of them now. He ended up buying two white ones at the same time a few years ago and stripped one down and kept all the decent bits he could, sold the left overs and then spent the next year or two rebuilding the one you see above. It's been a long process and it's still on going.

Having had the car for just shy of a month now, I have driven it a fair few miles on various roads on there are a couple of jobs I really need to get done! One is to replace the worn out suspension. I have looked at various options and I think i'll be saving up for some Koni sports with H&R springs over the coming months. Quite a costly bit of kit for the MX5, so I'll need to put some money to one side to get them and to keep an eye out for a second hand kit if one crops up! Secondly, the tyres need changing! I am currently on Yokohama Bluearth tyres. Not a bad tyre if your name is Ethel, you like a blue rinse and you have them on your Honda Jazz! But the second you look for a bit of a spirited drive, the traction falls off too quickly! Ill be swapping them for a set of Yokoham AD08s I had left over from my old car. I also planned to paint the toe loop on the front red, but then found out it's actually a tie down hook and the pair of them are nicknamed Baby's teeth.... while people have used them to tow with, I thought it best to get a proper toe hook fitted, so I ordered a Jass Performance loop and a fitting kit that should be more up to the job. Plus, it looks smarter than then old rusty tie down hooks. I just need to find a way of getting the rusty bolts out. Space is too limited for the impact gun and while the wheels are on the car, you cant get a breaker bar in there either! I'm thinking i'll need a lot of lube and heat, followed by lots of swearing and tea to calm down! Jack

Update on this one. I have had the AD08 tyres fitted, and removed the babies teeth tie down points at the front to fit the JASS Tow Hook. Not had chance to get some proper up to date photos so these crappy facebook ones will need to do for now! Have another of the 80 Q! We took both cars to retro rides gathering last Sunday and had a brilliant time. Met up with our mate Alex in his T25 camper van and had bacon sandwiches to start our morning! On the way home though, my car developed a bit of a grumble from the transmission tunnel. It got worse by Monday and I finally found time to drop it in at my mates garage to investigate. I feared the worst (clutch on its way out!) but he sent me this video earlier today: www.facebook.com/jack.j.mason.1/videos/10153674172281682/So my exhaust has split in half! Every cloud though, obviously means its time to upgrade to the stainless system early! I gave Moss Europe a call and iv ordered the single exit cat back Cobalt. Hopefully i'll have it on for Monday. Once that is done, I'll start saving again and get the suspension sorted. Hopefully i'll get that in time fore when I move into my new house and I can get that fitted in my new garage! Jack

Exhaust landed at my flat on Monday around 11:40ish. I must admit, I was very impressed with the build quality and look of the exhaust out of the box. The tip was a bit larger than I had expected though...Keys for scale! I had originally planned to get the car on the ramps on Wednesday but my mate rang me after work and said to pop up to his unit in wales and we'd have it on in an hour... he wasn't far wrong! It took us an hour to get the old one off (Fighting seized bolts and lots of rust) and we only snapped one bolt! fortunately it snapped right at the end of the thread so there was enough thread to fasten the new exhaust on comfortably Back home and in my garage. So now with that fixed, it's time to save for the suspension upgrades! Hopefully I'll have those before Christmas...if not...I know what I'm asking Santa for! Jack

Do you know anything about the wheels you have fitted?
I acquired a set a while ago but have struggled to find anything about their origins.
Thanks.
