Hope this thread is OK, after buying my Pickup, I'm just amazed at some of the cars that show up in South Africa, alot I've never come across, most at reasonable prices so I thought I'd share, more pictures available for most of them I can add if anyone wants to see, prices are asking price converted at 20 rand to 1 GBP to start, what looks to be a bit of a bargain, A 1964 MK2 Jag £8700 something a little older, what about a 1942 Ford pickup £7700 a bit fun-ner, 94 BMW with a lexus V8 £3500 and last for tonight, a lovely looking Citroen Traction, overpriced (IMHO) at £12000

I was trying not to get into prices as there are so many variables, based on my findings, you may get shipping for 1K, but there would be other associated costs like registration, export clearance, transport at each end, loading fees, offloading fees, import duty etc. where are you finding these, local ads/gumtree/ebay? I cant stop looking ! the easiest to search is www.junkmail.co.za/ as there is a 'classic car' section within the motoring ads, also worth keeping an eye on www.olx.co.za/

while I'm here, I'll stick up the other pics I've got saved, first, I'm very tempted by this, its been for sale for a while, a 1932 De Soto for a mere £7500 '48 Chevy 12.5K 1964 Opel Caravan 2K - found the link www.junkmail.co.za/motoring/classic-cars/gauteng/johannesburg/opel-caravan-1000/62907396never heard of these before, 1971 BMW 2000SA, the ad is for 3 of them, all 3 for 4K something else I've never seen before, Barkas B with a 3 cylinder 2 stroke, 2.5K it just goes on, My South African contact may be able to help with the export process should anyone be interested, although not until the first batch has arrived, pm me if you want any info.

Like I said "Shipping" is about £1000. Not vat. Not import duties. Not registration costs. Shipping...:-) There is a search engine called Ananzi which is pretty good as it finds all the ads on Junkmail,Gumtree,Olx etc. You can put in a search criteria and it will email you when ever it finds something. That's how I got some of the bits for my rx2 build. Just make sure your South African contact gets the paperwork right including a police clearance certificate for each vehicle,as South Africa is the stolen car capital of the world. If it doesn't have papers, don't buy it. Insist on a police clearance certificate before money changes hands. If it's got four wheels they will steal it. If it's got one wheel they will steal it. Hey,anything without a wheel, yep,you get the idea And am I qualified to say this? Yep,lived there for thirty years Sold one car in the 15 years I was old enough to drive, had four stolen....

I've found some pretty decent prices for things at South African dealers before as well, which may be a good way to get a bargain with a little less risk? I was looking at this earlier in the year when the Rand was totally in the toilet, didn't have any spare cash at the time. Now we've got a depressed pound so it is hard to get a good idea of what the actual cost will be, hopefully it'll bounce back when we Remain, so we get good exchange rates to import cars again

Ha Ha, I've been thinking the same, but when we leave I work in The City, and trust me on this at least Sterling will lose a significant amount of value if we leave, the exchange rate will be much worse. Although hopefully it won't hit 1 to 1 parity with the Rand

So everything is 10% more expensive,.. but it was already much cheaper, so probably still worth it. Greek guy I work with also pointed me towards Greece as a place to import from, economy in the toilet, a bunch of people selling their cars. Good place to pick up a bargain apparently.

Was 18.4 to the £ when I was there early May. 3 course meal for two was £18!
