Hi all,
Can anyone help me with finding good driving roads please?
I've got to pick up a replacement rear 3/4 for my capri that has kindly been donated to help fix it. Its been at my mates place since the Autumn when he kindly cut it off its shell. I'm based in South London and the 3/4 is in Preston so not a short journey (circa 250miles).
I've managed to free up Sunday to go retrieve this and have been thinking, rather than a boring 4 hour stint up the M40/M6 I could mix it up, get up early and go a bit cross country on the way up then cruise back down the M6 when laden. I've had a google and I can't find any decent suggestions for roads that are worth driving so I came up with the following plan which I'd appreciate some comments on.
The car for the journey...
The roof bars and straps for the journey assuming it will be a bit big for the boot (any excuse to post my old car!)...
The sick patient...
Journey route taking main roads showing distance...
My Route Plan to break it up and I thought wheres Green on Google maps to guide me then conveniently found a Mcdonalds or other to target for a curse word and a coffee! - I've also broken it down so that I can plum into my phone "avoid highways" for segments so that sat nav will direct me the route I want it to go rather than me having to navigate away from motorways
Part 1. Crystal Palace to Mcdonalds Milton Keyne via Chilterns "avoid highways"
This route takes me out through the centre of London which is nice early in the morning when your sharing the roads with a few cabs and up through the chilterns. Now I haven't found anywhere saying the Chilterns are good to drive over but thought I'd ask you guys if there are some hidden gems that I could detour over as my route is pretty much straight up the A413 which maybe a gem (but I've got no idea)
More Detailed view:
Part 2. Milton Keynes to Mcdonalds Uttoxeter (A50) "on Motorways"
So this is pretty boring segment. I thought I could grab a coffee and cruise up the motorway as there isn't any obvious roads to go down as I wanted to drive the 3rd segment. If anyone has more entertaining roads or routes in the vicinity would be grateful!
Part 3. Uttoxeter to Buxton "avoid highways"
This part is to try and get me up on the moors and have some fun. I did a similar route previously when I went up from Alton Towers to my brothers in Todmorden, which was great with sweeping fast moorland roads with twisty ascents and descents. Id appreciate comments again as not sure if I'm missing any gems near by
A bit more detail of route
Part 4 Buxton to Preston via Stockport
My thinking here is the bit to Stockport will be fun.. not sure if there is a speedlimit though on the road so again appreciate feedback on this segment. The rest is on the motorway network up to Preston
Part 5 Preston to Home Motorways and laden up!
Cheers guys, appreciate any thoughts or help on the above. Want to make it a bit more of an event!
