Toying with running tappering, overlapping stripes around my van maybe 1" tapering to 3". I figured it might be best done in vinyl.
Any advice?
Can I buy 8 meter lengths of vinyl in various widths? Like maybe 12"?
I was guessing I could stick it on, cut to shape then remove the rest?
Where can I get vinyl, is it expensive, should I get the pro's in?

Pm me dimensions and I will see what I can do for prices
Hand cutting is possible but I wouldn't recommend doing it on the van as it's too easy to go straight through the paint below.

I'm not sure how id work it all out in order to get it cut. I cant do photoshop, or draw, so I described what I wanted to my dog and she drew this. Expert penmanship for a 5 year old spanish street dog! It would be 3 shades of blue (or maybe blue, blue, black) Not sure how id finish the front but the back would wrap round. 3 shades of vinyl, or one piece printed? If 3 colours, cut in sections to kick up or one piece? How would you do this? Its a current new plan, on pure white paint, rather than the black/blue combo in my avatar. Might even be best of doing it in paint, but would be good to be able to remove it if I sell the van.

If it was for me I would cut each colour from seperate sheets of vinyl, my machine will do up to 600mm width rolls and about 10m long at a time so if I could get the kick up in the 600mm width I would go for that, otherwise it would have to be in pieces. Then put them together on the van, the front edge I would leave long and cut with a scalpel (carefully) once fitted to go with the profile of the front wheel arch. Vinyl is usually classed by how long it will last without shrinking or fading, I normally use 5 to 7 year stuff as I know it will still be good long after that time, cast vinyl is much better quality (and cost a fair bit more too) but is much more compliant (i.e you can get it round contours easier than the normal calendered stuff) it should last 10+years in outdoor use.
You could have it digitally printed onto clear and then profile cut, but I know almost nothing about that.
If you wanted to hand cut and diy then Victory in Clowne will probably supply you with the vinyl and top tape but I'm pretty sure they no longer have a trade counter and I haven't used my account with them for years. I use Hexis now and they're mail order.
I can't think of anybody local to you anymore I'm afraid, in the past I would have said Jim at Chesterfield Signs as that would have been right up his street but he passed away some years ago now.
Edit yes you can buy different lengths and widths, I would need to check what the narrowest roll is but in the better quality stuff I think the minimum order is only a couple of meters.
