Up for sale is my 1994 Peugeot 405 GLX TurboD Estate, in a very very fetching Mint Green. Mileage currently sits at just under 142k (12k or so of that is under my ownership).
MOT is until January 2016, the car is currently SORN but is ready to use.
I bought this car October/Nov last year as I needed a comfy economy barge for my stupid 120 mile a day commute. It performed flawlessly and never let me down once whilst returning a solid 50 MPG. I took it off the road following its MOT to work on a couple of the advisories and during this time have landed another job closer to home, so she is no longer needed.
In general, the car is very clean and tidy as can be seen in the pictures. There are a few bits of grot (shown), the paint is by no means perfect and there are chips and a few dents here and there but nothing major. A couple of panels look like they have been rubbed down and re lacquered. The exterior trim has been "repaired" by a previous owner in a few places using some black mastik - its untidy but holds on the trim. There is one little patch of rust on the nearside passenger door, just above the trim piece - shown in photo. The interior is exceptionally clean, excellent carpets and seats with no rips or tears, the 2-piece parcel shelf is intact. A 205 steering wheel has been fitted at some point, its a bit tatty but does the job. The original stereo is present and works, but the speakers are shot! All electric windows work, including the one-touch function. The air-con also works, very very effectively, its like a damn freezer in there with it on.
Mechanically, she is pretty sound. According to the service history, the Head Gasket was done at 110k so no worries there. I have just fitted a new offside front wheel bearing, track rod end, and strut-top bearing - I have all the parts to do the other side too which will be included in the sale. Also just fitted new rear brake shoes and both hand-brake cables, THESE WILL NEED TO BE ADJUSTED ONCE THEY BED IN! I also had a full new exhaust system from the down-pipe back fitted (receipts to prove) about 8 weeks ago. The engine is a bit clattery on start from cold, but once its going its very happy indeed and pulls very well with only a bit of black smoke under hard acceleration or off-boost ( I never do this deliberately......). I had a good look underneath at the last MOT and it is SOLID, no nasty rust surprises.
Known Faults:
- The dash doesn't illuminate, never has, I checked the fuses but I think its an earth or connection issue.
- AC Pump is clattery on tick-over if not engaged, meant to take a look but as this was my daily I never got round to it
- Glow Plugs do not come on with the ignition, there is a separate button on the steering column cowl - works fine, you get used to it.
- The heater doesn't really work - its not the matrix though, something to do with the electric control system - again it didnt really bother me but is apparently a common problem with an easy-ish fix.
- Headlining is held up with staples (see photo)
- The wheel trims are F**&!g awful.
- The rear tyres are Ditchfinders but have plenty of tread.
Known Wins:
- The colour, its literally MINT
- Velour Door cards
- Squidgy french barge seats
- XUD 9TE engine, these things just go on and on
This is a great car, I just need the cash and the space. Please feel free to PM with questions.
Car is located in Oxford (OX3), viewings more than welcome - again drop me a PM.
£650, open to sensible offers. It will be going on the bay in a week if no takers.
