There is already another thread covering this show from duncanmartin here retrorides.proboards.com/thread/188779/bicester-heritage-sunday-scramble-april
But since I took quite a few photos I thought it best to have another thread, so here we are DISCLAIMER: All photos are from my phone so sorry if the quality isn't up to spec haha
A mate of mine told me about this show in the week as he works there and said it would be cool to go along to, and with a free ticket in the mix, how could I say no?
Started off with driving down from Coventry with Rafftank in the RX7, he'd really helped me out a lot with cleaning, polishing and waxing it the day before and just as well as I ended up parked between a Ferrari Boxer and what seemed like a thousand Jaguars
There was sooo much stuff there, I was trying to take it all in so looking back there is actually a load of stuff I missed! We started off walking around the BMW stand of which I got one photo of this E30 M3 looking amazing in Purple
The BMW stand actually had lots of cool stuff on it which I was clearly taking more time to fawn over than actually photograph..
But in any case, we moved swiftly on to a stand of Americana and many Corvettes. But to begin with, a Bullit-esque Mustang and a Bel Air that just looks 'right'
The stand also saw the first of two Buick Rivieras that I spotted
While looking at that and the C3 Corvette next to it, a Bronze C2 Sting ray rolled up which I thought was worth a snap
Then it was on to the Lancia stand, and I think what must be the biggest collection of Montecarlos that I've ever seen, the damn things were everywhere
This one nailed the look for me though, colour coding, a bit of lowering and Autostrada Modena style wheels which are one of my favourites
Then on to the TVR stand..
Big engines + small lightweight bodies abound, the perfect TVR formula.
After a quick glance around the MG's (As much as I love a good MGB, I couldn't justify taking photos of 30 or so of them.. )
We then looked at what, for me, was car of the show
The arches, the wheels, the filling of the arches, aaahhh all so right!
That car also leads nicely onto the next group..
Many lovely Porsches, I have a feeling the Red/White 924 is a special version of some sort? but the name escapes me for now
Another nicely turned out M3 alongside a Clan Crusader I think? If it is a Clan, it was one of two that I saw over the whole day
Not wanting to be outdone by the abundant MGB's, the E-Type owners seemed to have well organised themselves as the number of them dotted about was impressive!
I also love this Ferrari
From here we left the inital field and headed in towards the old RAF buildings which were all renovated and set a really great backdrop for the show. We'd return to the field later as new and interesting stuff was arriving all the time
Attempt at arty shot of Beetle
There was a small group of cars for sale, these two pre war cars caught my eye
The Stutz caught me eye because of the engine, I can't work out what configuration it is. 8 Sparks would indicate an 8 cylinder, but they're in two rows of 4.. A narrow angle V8? Answers on a postcard
The [insert pre war car name here] next to it caught my eye because of the fantastic detail on the headlights, check these out!
I thought some of the cars for sale were fairly reasonably priced, with many of them looking in great condition
Viva
S Type
Amazon
Excel
And for those of you after a bit more 'Patina', a BMW 2002 in need of a touch of welding
From there we started walking around some of the buildings, which were showcasing some of the cars and work being done by the various companies on site, was really cool to see
Back outside the variety and quality of cars kept coming
Maser
Escort
Mmmmm
A gaggle of Karmann Ghias
Which resided next to a very not-retro, very green and yet very impressive Mclaren 675LT
Lambo Urraco
Alvis thingy
More 70's Italian supercar exotica with a DeTomaso Pantera
Then a Jag C(D?) Type, with some rather homebrew looking extra ventilation holes above the radiator grille..
Two different takes on rare and interesting. BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' and a Peugeot 505 STI (unfortunate name) both an equally unlikely sight on todays roads I would have thought
More Yellow!
Cobra, I'm fairly convinced this was the real deal..
Yay for more non-red Ferraris
Not usually a Vauxhall fan personally, but this was looking very tidy just across from the Ferrari
BMW Z1 showing off its party piece doors
My knowledge of BMW's gets a bit hazy the older they are, all I know is these are pretty rare now
Variety in one photo.
Rubbish photos, but lose the red steels and this Saab could be a winner
More Lancias
Exceptionally cool load lugger
VVC Metro sleeper, I'm fairly sure I've seen this on RR before?
Then we went into a building where all the cars were owned by one bloke in the corner and they were all for sale so I'm told. The guy had exceptional taste
Beautiful Alfa
Mmmmm Facel Vega
Back outside, we headed back for the outer field to see what else had turned up, passing this Tiger, Barracuda, DB6 and giant Buick(?) on the way
Little and large in the background
Ford Truck was tres cool
Caddy Coupe De Ville, always amazes me how big these things are, but some of the small details are impressive also. I love the exhausts on this particular one
Edsel.
Not 100% sure what this was, had a Triumph dashboard though so I think some sort of kit car?
Everyone loves Bristols right?
Bristol Fighter is rare even by Bristol Standards, and I certainly didn't expect to see one
Really poor shot of a truck which I saw leaving, I hadn't even seen this in my first walk around the field, there was really that much stuff there and it was coming and going all the time!
A pair of TR5's? The Triumph stand made me sad that a TR6 is out of my price range
This Jag could run the previously mentioned 911 close for my car of the show, the well-used look of it, the slot mag alloys, the shotgun style exhaust. The whole thing just looks mean
The name of this Ferrari escapes me but I do like them, they're quite inconspicuous
Renault 6 for vulgalour
Jag XJC is always a winner in my book
Ok I had to sneak one B pic in, in my defense they're not often seen in silver
I only recognised this thanks to Seth 's Ace Cafe thread. It looked awesome in his photos and even more so in person
More E Types with Rx7 peeking (was disappointed not to see any other rotaries there, maybe they were all at Japfest?)
Probably the coolest of the E's to me, dark green on black wires
Chrysler thing I can't remember the name of, sounded good
Buick Riviera No.2, also sounded good
Arty shot of clean and tidy Golf
Arty shot of Porsche
T bird
Ford Racing Puma, definitely one to watch for the 'future classic' pile in my opinion
These couple of shots are a bit off as the cars decided to leave as I took the photos
Willys Coupe looked very serious and aside from the head unit which could have maybe been a bit more flush, was exceptionally well finished
Some Vorsprung Durch Tecnik just across from the Willys
And to finish with, a little Datsun
By this point it had clouded over a bit, a bit of spitting rain was coming in and my planned drive in an Austin 7 was off the cards so we headed back to RX7 and headed home.
All in all was a great show, was over and above whatever I expected and we probably only saw about 80% of the stuff that was there!
But since I took quite a few photos I thought it best to have another thread, so here we are DISCLAIMER: All photos are from my phone so sorry if the quality isn't up to spec haha
