Hi Guys Following on from my Mercedes 300E that is for sale, the thread on progress is here: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/184044/1988-mercedes-300e-w124I bought the Merc mainly due to a long time love of them, but also as my project GTR was getting done in the background and I just needed something in the meantime. So, a good friend of mine at a garage where I've always had work done on my cars had a Silver R32 in the background on a trailer for years. When I sold my Transit camper I think it was, I wanted to go for something else, as you do. So! Although he said he'd never sell it, I managed to persuade him to let it go, but he does get first refusal should I ever want to sell. It has about 75,000 miles on the clock but overall, seems solid considering. Here it was maybe 18 months ago: Basically, it was there for a long time after the head gasket went So, the project began with me doing very little However, I started gathering some parts and the car was cleaned up. Stickers were removed and the whole thing was inspected. It started to look a little better: The interior is in very good condition. The seats have really lasted and come out well.

Engine wise, it was all there with a few small extras, but not looking too hot: So, it was ripped out and the work could begin: I don't have many photos beyond this but it turns out there was very little damage, much less than expected. So everything is getting rebuild and made better, yay!: The turbos have been sent away to be refurbed and to have steel internals.

From the interior point of view, I have bought only some minor parts, a new gear knob and gaitor mainly but the interior will get sorted once its actually ready: I have purchased a set of new 17" rota's in Bronze!! And new tyres. I would never have thought bronze would work, so although the plan is standard looking the aim is something similar to this:

Bodywork was not great on the surface, but to be fair to the old girl there is no rust. The stickers, the paint and the dents all made it look pretty rough when you got down to it. Off to the bodyshop!

And last week, this is where we got to: So, getting there! Turbos away, engine being worked on, bodywork getting there. Going for the standard colour - Silver

The hope is that it will all be ready in a month or so, hence the poor old Merc being up for sale On top of the above I have also done or bought the following: History check - clear Mines ECU Decatted and decent exhaust - will see how it sounds, I want it quiet-ish AVCR F-con N1 Ducts Downpipes done Alternator refurbished Spare genuine key sourced Endless Discs Stereo bought - period looking but does mp3 Leather handbrake gaiter and gear leather replaced New Nissan gearknob New upgraded radiator New clutch - will check spec Larger injectors being fitted New mats - Front brace bought Kings Racing bearings Boost controller - Greddy I think, period So, those are some of the headlines. Plan is to have it looking good and quite original and aiming for around 400bhp.

I'd love a Skyline, its a toss up between one of those and an Evo for my next performance J car.

I was the same actually. Had many Galant Vr4's and fancied maybe an Evo 6 or 7 but spotted this.
Glad I did, scratch the itch!

Awesome! I used to use the garage for work on my first Eunos when I had it a few years ago.
Good to see this being restored properly!

Love these cars; nice to see one getting some love and that you're keeping it subtle.
Cracking choice of wheel too, in a great colour.
Bookmarked

I had a Celica GT4 running almost 300bhp,great car.Wouldnt mind one of these though.Like what you're doing to the Skyline, various exhausts you can look into on the forums to find one thats not too ear shattering.

Nice work. What's it like underneath, guess the chassis is already sorted from the first photo. Also, why the need for a GReddy boost controller if you've already got an AVCR?

Hi mate Underneath is good but anything needing attention is being done. I sound terrible not doing it myself! It has an AVCR in the car but I bought a Greddy controller as Ive had good experiences of them in the past, should have said, but I was mid mind dump It was also one of the old original AVCR's, really old thing, so I thought it best to go with some a little newer.

Went to the bodyshop today as I was working close. Aiming for Wed/Thu done with paint. Issues with contamination on the bumper and spoiler, but being all sorted. These were really quite bad, not sure if you can see on the early photos but the paint was long gone on these. Starting to get excited!

R32 is my favourite gen Skyline. So subtle yet can be a beast although I hate how they were 4ws...that was weird. This will look amazing when done. Looking forward to more.
