Ok, what's the best brand of oil for a Ford pre-crossflow. Lotus L-block, Steel crank Big Valve Head Fast road cam Race dizzy For road use 99% of the time. I have used Valvoline racing oil, but my local stockist has disappeared. Any thoughts folks?

Find that Opie oils dude. He sells oil for every specialist application. And Valvolene I think,
Miller oil (www.frost.co.uk sell them IIRC) do a range of quality classic formula oils.

Nice, very nice I use straight Castrol GTX in mine. 711M block, Lotus pistons and rods, full race pre-crossflow head, Kent 244 cam and twin DCOEs. Don't whatever you do use a fully synthetic as it'll leak out all the seals and gaskets, then it'll get itself into the old skool coarse threads and all the bolts will come undone. Been there, done that. Note the grade of GTX has changed to 15W/40 recently so you want the 'high mileage' version which is the old grade. My old engine builder recommended either the semi-synthetic GTX Magnatec or straight GTX. Don't think it needs anything more exotic than that.
