My auto Legnum was slipping badly last summer, I did a full flush and fluid replacement and it was fine. The fluid should be a nice bright red, not a horrible dark brown like mine was! Interesting, could doing that fix the overdrive too? That doesn't seem to work at all.

I'm not familiar with how the overdrive works on the supra so I couldnt honestly say. Check your fluid colour. Does it slip in manual mode?

The fluid colour is ok but then I have put a lot in to get it back up to full. It was pretty dark before I did that. I'll have to test it in manual mode, I've only had it in Drive.

this car is so cool, I don't know anything about them but hope you get yours sorted for the spring! Have you owned any before this one? sounds like you worked on a few.
I tried to convince a buddy to buy one as his daily driver, he said it couldn't fit a mountain bike in the trunk and bought a VW Corrado VR6, as a sensible alternative........

Thanks I've had 2 before now. The first one, I learnt about cars on and had every part of it in pieces and back together at some point. (see the link in the first post). As for mountain bikes, if you put the back seats down you can get 2 in with the front wheels off. My tourer would go in with both wheels on!

The fluid colour is ok but then I have put a lot in to get it back up to full. It was pretty dark before I did that. I'll have to test it in manual mode, I've only had it in Drive. What you have got to remember is the gearbox will hold quite abit of oil. Having had no experience with the Supra I can't offer you direct advice, but refering back to when I did my Legnum this was the technique. Warm the engine up and then drop the trans fluid from the drain plug. My car dropped about 4 litres from the sump. However there is still old fluid left in the torque converter, solenoids and pipework. Put the plug back in refill the box and start it up. Cycle through the gears then take it for a gentle drive, making sure you go up and down through the gears. Then drop the oil again. Do this 2 or 3 times, depending on how flush you are feeling! This was a very painful process as I used nearly 15 litres of SP3 ATF (mine is very specific to the type used). and throwing away 10 litres of new oil at £40 for 5 litres hurts! Also there will be a filter somewhere, if this is blocked up then it will also restrict the flow. You may be able to use a transmission flush, but will be worth checking with someone who has more experience, as again I couldn't. Hope this helps

Cool some good advice there but I think I might just put the new box in. It's cost me nothing. I can't be sure the flush will work so the box change will be the cheaper option. I'm gonna try and get a new filter for it. Hopefully toyota can get one cause ebay and the local autofactors don't seem to be able to.

My friend who also has a supra has hers lowered quite a lot and it's really crashy over the bumps, she wanted to change back to standard springs and I have some lowering ones to fit. So we decided to have a swap round today. Obviously this is far more important than gears There was a slight issue, that some idiot fitted locking wheel nuts to these ugly, but apparently desirable wheels, for which I apparently don't have a key. A few destroyed sockets later, they're off. Off with the suspension and then we left it like this, resting on it's own wheels, while we took the uprights over to my friends (they have a hydraulic spring compressor). An hour or so later we were back to refit the suspension and I'm happy with how low it is, I think. I'll know better if it needs changing once I have some nice wheels on it. ... I keep getting photo bombed...

I must share this! I went browsing supra pics, as you do, and I found this! I did want to make this supra look like my old one but this is way more exciting!

Loving this project.
I've got an NA mk3 that I'm having to put a replacement engine in as it developed a rather alarming bottom end knock having only owned it for a matter of hours :/
Something I've struggled with on occasions is getting parts, any suggestions?

Thanks It depends what your after, a lot of stock items you can get from toyota still, although be prepared for it to be pricy and have a couple of weeks for it to come from Japan. I've got a lot of engine parts from them before. Otherwise ebay is your friend along with the owners club. Basic service stuff and even brake calipers can be had from your local motorfactors if you can convince them to look hard enough.

I'm after all the bottom end shells and an oil pump.
I've not tried Toyota yet as no one wants to see a grown man cry.
I may have to create a build thread but I am hopelessly unorganised.....

I've already bought some ARP head bolts from the US as they worked out about £70 cheaper so you might be onto something there. It's just the waiting for parts that's frustrating, I want to get it back on the road!

Cool, bottom end shells I got on eBay. Looks like you can still get a set for around 40 quid on there.

Great to see this one being saved. It was local to me and I'd enquired about it first time round, however it was a non-runner then so I decided against it. Bit greedy with 2 Supra's already in the stables but I think they look brilliant in white and they're disappearing fast. Wasn't long ago you could pick up Celica Supra's - now they're non-existent. It's a shame they're not more sought after but equally we probably wouldn't be playing with them if there was another 0 in the price. Best of luck replacing the gearbox and fingers crossed the rust is fairly localised. Will look fantastic when you're done!

Thanks.
Talking of Celica Supra's they are the reason I'm on my third MK3. My dad had 2 while I was growing up and I loved them! At the time they were as cheap as the MK3's. Unfortunately I've never been able to afford one!
