Can anyone help, my son has an old toyota touring car it is running on throttle bodies and we cant get it to start, we get a good spark and we have fuel at the fuel rail. Both fuel pumps appear to be working. one is the lift pump from the tank to the swirl pot and the other is the injection pump, we have loosened both lines and get a good flow of fuel but the swirl pot seems to only have a drop of fuel in it, now should the swirl pot be full?? any help would be great thanks

Yes, the pot should be full, does the excess fuel from the injection rail feed back into the pot?
The lift pump may provide enough fuel to run the run the engine, but the injection system needs more than that, to provide the required pressure for the injectors.
And the swirl pot needs a return to the fuel tank!

the car has been running and actually took part in a few races and is well known in the touring car class, as far as i know it was fine till it ran low on fuel. All the filters are clear and the lift pump seems to flow at a good rate as well as the injector pump, all fuel lines are as fitted and not touched since it was built.its just a mystery why the swirl pot does not fill up. i suppose the union from the lift pump into the swirl pot could be blocked ?? or the pump could be breaking down under pressure Thanks for your input

just a quick update, as its my sons car he managed to get a very knowledgeable man from Hastings who knew a few things about the management system ( motec i think)and it now starts, it seems it needed more bar on the fuel pressure. i hope this has cured it but as he has just had a baby he has not had the time to spend on it and of course as the baby is here it is now up for sale , he wont sell it till it running right
