Evening all, Here's one for you. I currently have an old, ugly concrete garage taking up half of my garden and the time has come to get rid of it. I know I could stick it on the Evil Bay , but there's so many messers on there at the moment that I really can't be bothered with the runaround so has anyone recently disposed of such a structure, how did you do it ( skip, grab lorry etc ) and what was the cost ? It's slightly longer and wider than a single garage, and I'd imagine that roof will have some form of asbestos content ?

The roof looks like it does have some Asbestos content I removed mine and was allowed to dispose of it at the local tip, it had to be double bagged and I was allowed 3 bags a month, it took myself several friends and relatives 6 months to get rid of it but it cost nothing!

Where are you as I could use some of the panels?

Put it on Freecycle, eBay for 99p, advertise in local paper as "Free to collector" etc. The panels weigh quite a bit so even if you decided to skip then it'll need a couple of people to move them. A large skip would be required so adds to expense. Asbestos MIGHT require payment to get rid (my local tip has free disposal in enclosed skip for DIY quantities). Personally I'd be tempted to carefully dismantle myself so parts reusable and pile them up before putting on eBay etc as you will probably get more people interested if all they have to do is remove rather than dismantle as well.

I had one similar, paid someone to take away the roof and then took a large hammer to the rest. No time for eBay wasters, now got to hire a skip large enough and probably a small digger to move it as doing it all by hand/barrow will be a ****

I was short of paving flags when I bought my house and used the concrete sections as flags.
Right heavy bleeding things and difficult to lay coz of hollow bit, even though I'm a labourer for a landscaper.
Very strong though and glad I thought outside the box!

Where are you as I could use some of the panels? I'm in Aston Clinton, just outside Aylesbury. Ideally I want it all gone at the same time really, as then I can get on with building one at the side of the house. It's not imminent by any means, as I need to empty what's currently in there.

Use the asbestos in new footings as hardcore Could do, but with two very young children I'd rather it was taken away and disposed of properly to be honest.

Use the asbestos in new footings as hardcore Don't do this ...... It costs us at the moment nigh on £1000 to dispose of asbestos! ( price per ton,min charge of 3 ton, haulage taxes etc etc ) A lot of places won't take it now,it gets buried in licensed landfills, but the ones nearest us have filled there allocated tonnage, and cant take anymore,so have to travel further to dispose of .......

You'd need an 8 cubic yard skip to begin with as well ......

It may not be asbestos, it could be the cement based 'I can't believe it's not asbestos' sheets
A grab wagon would be cheaper than skips once the roof is gone

And if it looks like asbestos,it has to be treated as asbestos, unless you get it tested and certified as such.

A couple of years ago I was more than happy to pay 30 quid for one of these!
Unfortunately not everyone who agrees to am ebay auction is as honorable as most of us.
Might be worth a punt on there as it costs nothing.

A lot has changed since then!
We get a right royal bollocking if we knowingly bring in a skip containg asbestos!
Even the customer thinks they are being clever by 'hiding' it in the bottom of a skip so the driver can't see it,when we tip them out at our yard,it gets put back into a skip, and we take it back to the customer ......which is good when they come home to a skip on thier drive!!

It's certainly an option, but with work and a young family I just haven't got the time to be messed about by a number of supposedly genuine Ebayers who think nothing of letting others spend all day waiting for them to not turn up. If someone on here wanted it then of course I would oblige, as well as help dismantle it ( and make the tea !). This however won't be until the end of spring/early summer as getting time off work to clear it out etc isn't as easy as I would like at the moment.

Got rid of a couple not to long ago, one brick one concrete prefab. Knocked them down (read drove truck into) then advertised the rubble on gumtree and freecycle as free hardcore to be collected. people soon came and took all the rubble away. The roof we used a skip as we had other building material to get rid off too. Plus The guys at the tip where getting a little ticked off about all my frequent trips there with the truck.
