Long story but I'm doing a few bits to a kit car and need to remove the protective film from the body. Its been riveted. any tricks apart from cutting around each rivet with a blade?   Thanks. |

Slight bit of heat from a hair dryer might help lift it off the paintwork. Obviously be careful not to hold it to close and don't hold it in one place for to long. Should come off easier then.

There is no paint, its polished stainless. I did think a bit of heat might shrink the film back to the rivet. The car has been put together without peeling the film off from between seams or from under fixings. Just wondered if I was missing a trick  |

Just use a razor or stanley blade , not much else you can do to get it from behind rivets .

I wouldn't want to pull it out from behind the rivet heads, or you'll have many loose rivets!

Just trim it with a blade and srink it with a heat gun..

Blade trimming is the future.
Might even make a cutter the right size, like a gasket punch, to do the rivets.
Bloody pain!

Might be possible to drill them out but it would be more work than I could put into it. Black rivets would look good though, id put a screen on it if it was mine too. Not really my kind of thing but the motor is a proper little screamer |

What about a cigarette lighter. Hently burn them off, Little bits at a time.

A sharpened piece of copper, new welding tip sharpened into a point or a bit of thick firm copper cable.
At work I make large AHU and HVAC units that have huge stainless panels fitted inside a crate like affair. whilst the units are still in the workshop we have the plastic film fitted to the panels and it is only removed just before packing.
Our panels are made out of two sheets of cut and folded stainless, they're packed in the middle with insulator and then riveted together. We use a sharpened bit of copper to cut the film because it does not scratch the stainless at all. we have been doing it for years and no one is yet to scratch the stainless.
So in short, a sharpened bit of copper.

The copper thing is a great tip. Ill pass it on. It probably wont be me dealing with it any more.
The person doing the Rest would not be able to start replacing rivets etc.
