1991 Rover Metro 1.1s aka the beastro. Been on this forum for years, i'm turning 19 on Saturday and have been lurking since i was at least 15, always been into retro cars and had some spare cash and thought curse word it. Seen it on eBay and it was close to me (literally within 1 mile), pressed bid and went and got it that night and offered him £350 in cash instead of the £375 winning bid, you don't ask you don't get!! Ad was short and sweet "sat for 5 years no rust doesn't start" Wasn't fussed on the sat for 5 year and doesn't start because you'll see why shortly. Anyways, we got it towed to the garage and got under it and had a good look around: Considering the ad had 3 lines written about the car, it was pretty f*cking accurate, no rust. I'm happy with that. There was a hole in the exhaust, dog hairs all over the place and a free ashtray with which i assume were 6 year old ciggy butt, i could live with that. So first thing was, get rid of the ald smell of the thing inside, stripped the seats out and got to work! Still, no rust found. Absolutely buzzing. Took all the hub caps off because i'm going to spray the steels black. We found out it's really practical aswell Got a fantastic greeting aswell when i first pulled the sun visor down, thanks past owners. Much love. Give it which i'm assuming it's first wash in a couple of years, haven't boxed giving it a proper detail yet until it's completely finished. And alls i will say for this last photo is, donor car. Nothing much and nothing less until more progress is made! Cheers for reading, i'll update it as much as possible!

Got yourself a very tidy metro there, usually plagued with rotten arches. I can only guess from the donor car, this is going to get interesting

The strip down began of the Rover 45! Once it was out, time to get the subframe out of the Metro, unbolt the original 1.1 off and bolt the new 1.6 engine. Now time to bolt the new engine in place! Time to get the subframe and the new engine back in the car.. Once we bolted all the engine up, i gave it a bit of a clean and quickly sprayed this cover a Rover Cashew Gold, looks pretty good! It was then time for an exhaust. We had come up with all sorts. Double side exit, bozuku style up the back bumper, ended up going for a suttle side exit with a miniture heat shield. Nothing too OTT but looks nice imo! Then, i tidied the bumpers up and freshened the wheels up and got it off the ramp which was a massive struggle being so low. For anyone wondering why it's so low, it's not because i'm some chavvy kid who thinks it looks sick, it's because it is on basically hydraulic suspension and full of fluid, when you release all the fluid the car gets lower and loses all of it's shock absorbers. We had to let the fluid out to allow us to get the sub frame out to do the engine swap. All the lines are connected which meant the back ones had to be drained also which is a pain in the ass. The next stop is to get the suspension pumped back up so it is driveable. All it needs now, is a loom, fuel pump & alternator that fits as we had a lot of trouble with it! But the engine is in and basically ready to go! So hopefully once i get these parts within the next week shall be up and running no problem! Thanks for reading.

Great work, look forward to seeing it running. Looks like you have a good setup for working on it.

What engine management are you using? As the 45 engine is mems3 and the metro it's mems 2 setup?

I would love a caged, striped fast road 1.8vvi powered one of these. My Motorsport mechanics tutor had a group n/cup car Gti. It started my love for these but for me a cage is essential with added front strut intergration as we saw what they were like after they hit something.

I do want to keep it nice and low, but functional aswell so we will see what happens!
As for when they hit something they really do just crush like a metal can!!!

This is a very interesting thread, because I have been thinking about these a lot lately, their compatibility seems awesome! Plus I can only imagine they go quite well with a substantial power supply installed. Please forgive my ignorance here but... What engine management are you using? As the 45 engine is mems3 and the metro it's mems 2 setup? We believe R100 1.1 Mpi loom should be ok with the ecu from the 45 So the metro loom you have fitted is no good for the conversion, but the R100 being MPI is compatible so you would swap the lot out in favour for the R100 loom? Therefore suggesting the R100 item is a plug and play kind of affair? Don't know if you have seen this one, might prove for worthwhile inspiration. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/129613

As the metro was originally carb it brought us all kinds of problems, but i curse word love this shell alot more than a rover 100 so it's worth biting the bullet!
