That's from my town, never seen it though and we have a lot of local meets.
Can't comment on price, wouldn't have a clue. I seem well out of touch with a lot of classics.

Things are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them I suppose. The same goes for VW buses these days.
I wonder how much difference there is between asking price and selling price in some cases?

Things are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them ^^^exactly this. That's the only true way to determine a car's monetary value - it's the amount of money proffered by the person who turns up to buy it.

I've got a mk2 escort not rs or Mexico. Just a base model, but a 2 door and the prices are quite crazy. I bought mine nearly 10 years ago when prices weren't too bad.
People seem to want them badly again these days. I wouldn't spend £20k + on most things with a ford badge.
Shame really.

blame the Rally fraternity, in particular the Irish, no matter what model most ended up rallying. the belgians love 'em too for their Historic rallies. same thing happened with Toyota Corolla's etc, and anything with rear wheel drive

TBH i think a lot of people are chancers with ebay . They see what similar is up for and then think ' sod it , i will put 8k on that just to see ' .
And then someone will buy it , someone always does , either with a bucket fulls of cash or just making a unthought out decision with what money they have . Its a bit annoying but what can you do ? There is always someone with too much money and maybe not the best idea about the cars .
It not a new thing really , is suppose ebay has just made it more prevalent . Classic cars dealers have been doing it for years . I can and still do see people selling cars that might be £1000-1500 over something similar by another dealer - they just right a very smooshy advert and before you know it someone turns around 6 months later and wonders why they bought a 1.6 sierra for 4k !

I sold a mk2 cortina 6 years ago for 4K it's now on brightwells auction 2nd March est 8k to 10k no way I'd pay that, but someone will, incidentally I bought it 1000 pound in 2007,the whole ford thing is madness, I prefer old mercs and jags more!

I like my old Fords as I have fond memories of being a carefree youth in assorted late 70s ones but I've been completely priced out of the market these days. When we were kids they were cheap which is why we bought them. At the time there were things I'd rather have but couldn't afford.
These days you can get something 60s with 8 cylinders for less than the price of an Escort with a Cortina engine. Ultimately, as said above, it's worth what someone is prepared to pay. However, short of a £32 million lottery win, it's not where my money would go.

My Mk1 is much more fun than the Rover P6b I had. The Escort gives me more than twice the MPG and is better on A and B roads, although the Rover was smoother and quieter on the motorway, but not much due to it's full Britax sunroof. It's a damn sight easier to work on as well.

I really don't understand why everyone gets so surprised, it's an RS Ford. I'm not saying they are all that, but let's just think about it, Lotus Cortina's went crazy, then Mk1's, then Mk2's, then Mk3 XR's & RS's, Fiesta XR's,Cossie's etc etc. Do yourselves a favour & buy a mint Mk4 RS Fiesta/turbo or whatever is cheap now & you can't go wrong, you have been warned. BTW I own a mint 30K, Mk2 RS2000, I've had it since 2001, paid 4k for it, am I smug? You betcha!!

Probs with places like ebay it's full of chancers. I recently bought an exhaust cable bracket for my motorbike from Fowlers in Bristol, less than £8 plus a couple of quid postage. The following week on evilbay the same item being offered second hand and rusty for £19.99 Worlds either gone mad or folks are just too lazy to do their homework IMHO Who's the craziest, the ones paying the over inflated prices or the chancers making a killing?

If you can buy one and hide it from thieves and weather it's a great investment. Better than any bank can offer. This is the only reason I can see people spending like this. I mean, would you drive it after spending so much?
