Inspired by the glory days of BTCC, i've bought an icon of British Touring cars - an Accord Type R! It's a "true Type R", even though it's in a larger package than usual. They come with an LSD as standard, and a peach of a 2.2 VTEC motor! I picked up a bit of a snotter off eBay, so as usual I'm experiencing a slightly woolier sports saloon experience, but even so it's a sharp car! Handles really well, LSD is great for the tight stuff and it pulls hard in VTEC. You really feel it in second especially. The P/O decided to test some T-Cut in an "inconspicuous area"... I've got a list as long as my arm of jobs to do. The car has been driven by an old guy for the last 8 years, so it's seen maintenance, but of the "keep it going" type. Let the fun begin! First up, polish and a full service!

Oh magic! These are unobtainable in Australia at this stage, but I love them! I see it has the classic Honda Pink paint scheme - a quick cut and polish will do wonders for it, I always used Meguiars Wetlook on my Prelude and it seemed to keep the pinkness at bay if done 12 monthly, despite being parked outside (in Australia even!)
These and the 4 door Integra's really do it for me - Honda definitely doesn't make them like that anymore!

I have a very fond memory of being with my dad in his GTO and being baited by one of these used an unmarked police car, never went anywhere but he got a stern telling off on the side of the road!

What's it like for rot? Especially around the front subframe braces (just behind the front wheels) and the bulkhead?

Awesome! I had my heart set on a red one, but the pirates black cars do look nice - especially with the chrome blacked out! I'll be honest, I haven't checked for the dreaded R-word yet! It was a complete last minute punt on eBay so I didn't really have much choice. I've got to get it on the 2 poster ASAP and inspect the underside and bulkhead thoroughly! I'm not expecting great things though, as it's bubbled on the rear left arch and has 2 advisories for corrosion on the underside on previous MOTs. In the meantime, i'm enjoying the drive I realised that i'd forgotten to check tyre pressures until yesterday - turns out it had 25 and 22 PSI, instead of 2.5 and 2.2 bar! Funnily enough, handles a lot better now... What a novice mistake!

Here's the drivers side of the bulkhead, by the throttle pedal: It'll have to go to someone more skilled than me, but I'm not too disheartened.

To be honest mate, they're all getting to that age where they'll need a bit of welding. Mine was suppose to be mint but it still needs a bit of attention before it gets out of hand. Mines the rare cross-over Night Hawk Black on the pre-facelift- supposed to be rare-ish.

Worth checking on the passenger side up higher as the scuttle panel collects leaves and rots it out as well. Great cars just need attention as they've been owned by too many people who don't care about them.

The passenger side inside the engine bay looks OK at a first glance - i need to get the arch liners off ASAP and inspect. Hopefully a good bodyshop will be able to repair most of it without completely having to strip it all down and rip the dash out.

Although I'm more into it's old BTCC rival, the Nissan Primera GT, I do still quite like these ATR's.
Looking forward to seeing how you bring this one on.

Well seeing as we talking about accords this is mine I bought off here last week for a grand total of £120 and absolutely love it but realising how hard it is to find parts to modify it. Even harder than my 86 celica convertible!

Big update - a good few month's worth. So first of all, the pink Accord is now a bit more red! I'd also been preparing the car for a big bucket list achievement - My first ever Nurburgring trip! (and not my last!) I did 2 laps out there with my (incredibly brave) Dad as a passenger. Laps were reserved, but I managed my sub 10 BTG target! I'll be aiming for 9m next time, the car is easily capable. The car, as she stands now: - All new belts and tensioners - New OEM clutch - Aftermarket power steering cooler - Long arm induction kit and K&N cone - solid fabs decat and down pipe - XYZ coil overs - Special cheapy TE37 style rims... - Federal RSR tyres - Interior has been stripped - Cobra suzuka seat and harness - OMP dished rim wheel - Yellowstuff pads all around - new discs, decent race quality fluid - Refreshed calipers It was an amazing car to take to the ring. Easy to drive fast, yet always felt safe. I was really proud of how dialled i got the coil overs, and the tyres were awesome too. Video evidence! (Not great quality!)
