I'm not talking about buying a service book and getting your mate at the local garage to put some stamps in it. But the last couple of cars I've bought have come with absolutely nothing more than the V5c, and a page printed out from the dvla website showing its MOTd. I was wondering if in this day and age it was possible to download all the old MOTs and print them up yourself, and is it possible to download the service history at all?

MOT history is only back to when it went computerised in 2008 afaik.
A couple of times on newer cars i've taken a punt that the supplying dealer from the reg plates might have done all the servicing,rung them up and asked nicely and got some printouts.
I've had some luck on classics with contacting previous owners and asking if they have anything.My ex Scimitar i bought with nothing,but a bit of detective work got me a massive file of stuff that cost a tenner to post!
Need to do the same with the Eunos really,intrigued why it was imported and then basically didn't move for 6 years.

If you do a MOT history check the records only go back to 2006 anything before that is lost as far as I know. They have only recently let you do this without having to enter the MOT test number and it's really handy when looking at cars on ebay as you can see all of the advisories and failures. This is it www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=1.18856441.1175670990.1453240519Some dealers will have access to service history. I got what was available for my 940 from the local dealership presumably from Volvo. Depends on make of car and if the owners were able to pay for main dealers service history. If you can trace any other garages that have worked on the car they might still have information. With the old MOT history check the MOT test station number was listed in the records, the new one doesn't as far as I can see. |

I bought my fathers old Peugeot company car - with 250,000 miles on the clock ! It had been the same main dealer serviced / repaired from new and my father simply asked them for a printout that ran to several pages stating everything that had ever been done to the car.

I've bought a few cars recently where the seller has printed off all the available MOTs and given them to me. Tbh I think it's a bit pointless, I'd rather the car was owned by someone who kept the originals and even then, I can get the info myself online! I have seen cars advertised recently as "full service history" only to get there and find they just meant printed MOTs  . |
