Having looked for years for a good firenza/manta a/Opel gt since selling my C20XE mk1 astravan I finally found something. It had beeen restored, fitted with a bulletproof C18NE, painted in a good colour, mot'd, tax exempt - basically ready to go! So I bought it, drove it home and parked it in a garage and that's where she will stay in one piece till I move to my new house. But she's cool, turns head wherever she goes and I love just cruising around...for now. Plans are to get my C20LET off the engine stand and in a car at last, and unfortunately paint it properly. The previous owner went all out restoring it but for paint he drove it round various body shops on his trailer and settled for the cheapest. Bad idea. But his prep was good

That look like a nice car and the engine installation look like it came like it from the factory ! Is it a Manta engine or did they fit those in Carltons as well.

The paint is thin in places, you can see streaks - and theres the odd filler mark here and there. Nothing some tlc wont sort.
The colour is 80s BMW apparently, suits it well I think.
Engine & box are from an 84 Carlton, only 80 odd horsepower. Rice pudding skin is safe, its proper slow! Pretty tidy install only needs the carb setting up as its very hesitant.
Cant wait for the spring or my new house with garage on site, at the moment its stored away some distance from were I live with no power so I cant do curse word all to it or even drive it. For now I've bought some rear lights to paint the chrome black, have a front droopsnoot bib to prep ready to fit and I'm looking for some seats. I'm liking Alfa leather, I think it will match the rears pretty well. On the hunt for a 7 dial dash but they are quite hard to come by with the plugs as well.

Spent a fortune and got some wheels. After re-pitching and custom spigot rings I've no change from £1000.

Looks great! One thing in my opinion that would finish it off perfectly, A tap with the lowering stick on the front and a front air dam/Bib and then just enjoy it.

Thats exactly my plan! I have a new engine to fit so will have to do suspension after its in in case it alters the ride height, but I agree the front up look doesn't suit it imo. I have this bib and rear spoiler to fit although I'm not sure on the rear spoiler, will offer it up once its painted.

Perhaps 'separate' air dam & spoiler styles (rather than moulded on), or a freestanding spoiler might suit better? (Carbon finish if fitting a vaguely modern motor).

Did some stuff over winter! Not as much as id have liked as I discovered I needed to make it safe Most of the electrics were bodged with crimp connectors. The battery was moved to the boot using a 16mm2 cable simply run through the car to an isolator, not even in ducting. Needless to say it didn't start well and the cable got hot! It did have 25mm2 cable the engine side of the isolator though lol. Off the isolator (all unfused) was one terminal powering the wipers, heater motor, coil, rev counter light, battery gauge, oil pressure gauge & cig lighter. Top top it off the isolator was about 2mm from shorting on the dash bar. Funny thing is everything was there to be connected correctly and most labelled? So whilst I was fixing the electrics I changed to a 7 dial dash, E32 projector headlights and lowered it a tad. Still have seats and bib to fit sometime this summer. Just enjoying cruising about for now
