Morning all, Just wondering if people more in the know can help me a newbe in the world of ford engines which my ginetta has fitted! Its a pinto 205 block and thats all I know, even things like oil needed would be a good start lol and I found this in the boot, should I be worried? The engine is running lovely at the moment! many thanks chris

I wouldn't worry, its just an additive to minimise valve seat recession when using unleaded fuel in a non unleaded head, if you don't want to use it just pop the head off and have unleaded valve seats put in at your local engineers

You need to use something, i managed to burn out a pinto leaded valve seat in under 7000 miles, that was starting with a head that had the exhaust valve seats recut and new valves, I would probably have got longer pottering about but motorway work seemed to kill them in short order.
I'm rebuilding my spare head now after having hardened seats fitted, just came in as it's too dark to see

Blimey 7000 miles from fresh cut, considering how quick it is to take a pinto head off its hardened valve seats every time for me, saves any messing about

In my defence I was in a hurry and needed the van back on the road for work, so couldn't afford the time to get inserts fitted to my original head. I was thinking I should get 20 or 30k before they were a problem and would be fitting a V6 before then but it's come back to bite me!

All interesting, ok so for the mileage itll be doing ill keep putting this in and ive checked quickly halfords site list a wynns similar product for 15 quid. Not knowing the full history and since this was in there id say it needs it.
last full owner used it daily for 5 years and I think its racked up 70k in that time!
Oil advise?
Cheers Chris

Valvoline 20/50 race oil in mine, it still feels really thick and oily even when it's due for changing, but other people will have their own favourites.
Oh and there's 2 (at least) different filters fitted to the pinto both the same fitting and thread, I always ask for the larger capacity one as space isn't an issue.
I have to say the pinto is remarkably tough, especially compared to modern engines and will soldier on even when completely knackered.

if you have no history then i would get the cam belt changed as well. I would also budget for a unleaded conversion too as in my opinion using additives is only for temporary measures

Freshly cut valves will wear quicker than old used ones as there is no lead memory (lead from the old fuel pounded into the seats for years that lasts a while after you stop using leaded fual), with motorway work i've burnt out freshly ground valve seats in a few K also, round town they last a lot longer The 2.0 is a safe engine so no valve to piston contact is the belt goes so it's not a big worry like on modern engines, as for oil i use 20/50 in a used pinto, if it was a freshly built motor i'd say differant

Thats great to hear its a none interference engine! My favourite type of engine lol.
also good to hear 20-50 oil, didnt realise it would be the classic oil, suppose I forget how old it is when dealing with even older imp engines this one in age seems very modern lol.
many thanks for all the info guys!
