Red Mk5 Cortina Crusader, XPK871Y, Chatham, Kent 02/01/16 Red Mk5 Cortina Crusader reg no. XPK871Y was stolen from outside the owner’s house in Tobruk Way, Chatham, Kent between midnight & 9am on Saturday 2nd January 2016. The car is owned by a disabled man who has been working on the car for the past 3 years. The car has tatty Crusader graphics & the front wings on the car have been rubbed down & have dull red paint on, the passenger side shows grey filler & mustard yellow undercoat where the top coat has been rubbed down & neither front wings have graphics or mouldings. The front grill doesn’t have a Ford badge fitted & the bumpers are missing. The door cards had been removed & were lying on the back seat. The car is currently on SORN & has no MOT as the owner was doing it up. This is one of two Cortina’s stolen from the Chatham area on the same night, the other being a brown mk3. Reports state that a lorry with 2 Cortina’s on the back was seen heading towards Dartford Crossing.

What the hell is happening in the kent area at the mo ? All i'm hearing about is cars being theived from my former area. This is hugely depressing to hear, seeing as i'm heading back there in the next few months. Sounds like there's an organised ring operating to me. B******S the lot of them.

Was a silver sierra laser mk2 no idea on the reg but was a tidy old bus. He got home, parked up locked the car went indoors,a short time later his son came home and said I didn't know you were home, the cars not outside! I think someone had been watching and waiting for the right time to pinch that one, shame his son didn't catch the scrotes at it! I think some 'justice' would have been served!

I'm sorry but its blantantly obviious where these are going . Who in there right mind is stealing them to take apart and get , what £500 for the bits , if that . No one is stealing them to take respray and , change seats , engine etc and ring them , to much hard work for little reward.
We all know where these cars are going and that lot need to get there shop in order , instead of turning a blind eye to ignored suspiciously cheap no vin cars .
This stuff doesnt grow on trees so they cant pretend these good old cars keep popping up cheaply/free for them .

This is such a shame, i know exactly how it feels having been victim to this myself afew years back, with possibly the same sad ending. There certainly seems to be a trend for it over that way atm. I really hope it gets found.

Sadly it's the first thing I thought of too. Looked on the link, there are already 94 cars registered!!! Where have they found that many cars? I'm sure that green estate has suffered the same fate too.

In a minute a banger racer will be here to say don't tar us all with the same brush. But I wonder if police or Vosa were there checking every vin number, engine number, and vehicle registration documents against DVLA records. How many of those 94 cars would be allowed to run.

Surely someone would be interested in the fact that there's 4 or 5 Cortina's stolen so recently in the radius to this meet??
It's not really a case of 1 old car going missing anymore?!

The main problem is , the cars will go to nasty little hidden away lockups ,and when they come out you have no way of knowing where they came from or there identity .
Also the problem is the police no doubt treat any car theft the same as another , a car is a car so to speak , i doubt they would join the dots .

For many years I've said not all banger people are theives.... But all cortinas from Se London to Kent to Essex are going missing , even I'm finding hard to see anywhere other than banger racing being the outcome?? I do have some mates who have been in the banger scene since the 80s and I know for a fact they wouldn't condone what's going on at the moment

I suspect those Cortinas have been lifted by the kind of people that have grazed knuckles from being dragged along the pavement and carry around starting handles with copious amounts of human blood and scalp tissue.

Hi, The promoters could help in this matter, not least by not having these car specific meetings. The youngest Cortina,s are 33 years old, that's not old banger dailies that is in classic and cherished car territory. They can't buy these cars easily or legitimately without spending real money. So they have to nick 'em or buy them from someone who has no qualms about doing it and turning a profit selling them on.

I'm sorry... 94 cortinas banger racing??!! Who's got 1500-2000 to waste killing a classic car after half a day ragging it round a track? And what car lover in there right mind would want to? That's 94 classics that will never see a show ground or road again! You can't tell me that none of those 94 cars is worth saving. Surely someone should be policing these events it doesn't take long to check some paperwork and chassis/vins is in order and if a car is genuine then there will be atleast some trace of identity.

Hi, The trouble with doing checks and stopping them being raced is all a bit late, they are already lost to the owners. If the insurance has been paid out, the cars go for disposal which means they end up going back into the motor trade and the hands of the racers. There needs to be more of a deterrent to stealing them in the first place with bigger penalties than a slap on the wrist. Whilst I'm not a fan of the Americans, they do regard car theft as 'grand theft, auto'.

Surely someone should be policing these events it doesn't take long to check some paperwork and chassis/vins is in order and if a car is genuine then there will be atleast some trace of identity. When spending so much on a car to race, money can be made back by selling the spares, trim etc, and then weighing the car in, so the bigger and rarer a car is, the more 'status' it gives the driver on track, and the potentialy more money he can make back on the car. It doesnt always work this way, but it can. Ive known cars to go on the track where, to the untrained eye youd think 'WTF?' etc etc, but if you know the inside story it all makes sence. Its a shame when a saveable car gets raced, but when its all above board theres not alot that can be said, plenty of mk1 escorts get drilled full of holes and wrapped around trees in the quest for fun. This is, of course totaly irrelevent to what seems to be going on here. Something needs to be done, there have been quite afew 'one make' meetings recently and id be interested to see if things add up.
