Hi all, I've got a reoccurring problem of people reversing into my car. I've lived here for 4 years and had my old Escort for 2 of those. Never really been a problem but, lately i had one guy who reversed into my car and bent the bumper (got his details and sorted that out, see my riders ride posts) and now yet again outside my house someone has reversed into it. No visible scratches but it has pushed the bumper back one side slightly so it doesnt look level now. A house mate saw it and took a photo of the car and the number plate... didnt say anything to the person who did it... I've seen this car around before and so have other house mates so I'm sure i can track it down but i'm guessing theres not much i can do as its not really much evidence. Its not the worst thing ever but any advice on this stuff in general? its doing my head in! I don't know how I'm going to pull it out and these are new bumpers i've just sprayed. I've even thought about those accident cameras but then it invites someone breaking a window to get at that. Chris

Driving standards are going down the pan. This is a time when lots of people are using parking sensors to help them 'touch park' because visibility in modern cars is so poor they can't see.
I've found my car with it's rear bumper torn off one end (it has very pointy corners compared to modern cars) but i'm more concerned with the sides - the ridge along the waistline (well, door handle level) is so proud that the lower mouldings don't really help.
But i can't find rolls of protective strip anywhere! Used to find them in every car accessories shop but they seem to be a thing of the past now, except one particularly well-known establishment that stocks all sorts of boy-racer tat except bodyside rubbing strip... and breathe.
Most of whatever is online is chrome, which i don't want.

If your house mate saw it and took a photo then you ought to report it to the Police.... After all it's classed as hit and run As a teenager my mate slid into a parked car in the snow. Stupidly he turned off his lights and cleared off but a neighbour got his number. Mate got to go to court and ended up with 6 points and a hefty fine

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

I watched an old guy reverse into my car twice last week whilst parking next to it. Luckily it was only my Pajero so there wasn't any damage to speak of. But the guy knew I was there, he just got out of the car, said morning, and trotted off into his house...

Driving standards are going down the pan. Sadly this is the truth, and the main problem! The other thing that is now broken is the passengers side tail light. This happened on the school run one morning, and i'm fairly sure i kow who the culprit is, but of course no one saw it. But, there's this woman, and she drives an old Vauxhall Zafira, it's a real shed of a car, not a straight panel on it, not even the roof, and covered in scratches, it's only made worse by the fact that it's black. Anyhoo, she's what would best be described as a contact parker, actually, by the look at her car, i reckon she's probably more an impact driver. I've seen her parking, and she's just keeps going until the car infront, or behind moves as she bumps it, this is usually followed by the sound of an alarm! I have a particular dislike for this kind of driver, and i genuinely believe that if you don't like your car, and have no interest in driving, and motoring, then you have no busness owning a vehicle, and being on the road! This is because i believe people like this, and don't get me wrong here, she's a lovely lady, friendly, chatty, nice to be around, but she can't drive for toffee! But as i was saying, if you look on your car as just a means of getting about, and never bother cleaning it, maintaining it, or looking after it, you probably don't care too much about it, and you probably don't care at all about anyone elses car. I realise of course that a car is just a machine, a tool if you like, but i think that the best craftsmen are the ones who look after their tools... Sadly she's still at it, and has nudged several of my cars since. Worse than that is I've pulled her up on it several times, but she sees nothing wrong with what she does, apparently that's how you park!! How do you get through to these people? Sorry, not really what you'd call good advice, or even just advice, but good luck with it fella!

I was finding a similar problem of no one stocking the 12mm self adhesive D shape trim for ford bumpers in anything but chrome, then I stumbled across this place rubbertrim.co.uk/body_mouldings.phpThere may be something of use to you on here

Is it tight for parking around your way ? Parallel parking nose to tale on the street ?
Ive lived in Victorian streets like that with a really struggle for space . After a while i realised a lot of people got into these ridiculous parking spaces by just going back and forth until the other car moved , meaning they were touching . Every car in places like that seems to have scuffs and marks , so i sold my Leon turbo and got a old banger .
If its happening a lot because of this is might be a good idea to find somewhere else to park if you can .

i have this problem too, i now refuse to spend more than £1500 on our daily car as it just gets ruined, really should be able to have what i like but get fed up with people just nudging it all the time so now we have to drive around in a cheap dented daily. only plus side is i have had some cheap motors as dailys which were already dented so on the cheap side. luckily my bmw lives round the back in the garage so wont get damaged.

Tow bars are a blessing for areas with tight parking. Always nice to see someone who thinks they are clever nudging your car driving off with a big hole in thier plastic bumpers. Doesn't help the front end but protects the back to an extent.

Unfortunately a fact of life these days, the Discovery has various scratches and dents, I guess people think it's an oldish 4x4 so doesn't count. Vans lorries are the worst, some of the dents scratches are quite high up. The Alfa has a nice long scratch down one side and now a scratch on the middle of the rear bumper (wife also creased a rear door but no damage to anything else). I do get annoyed about the Alfa but it's so dirty you can't tell at the moment. Mazda has some battle scars but they were put there by either my daughter or me (Castle Combe cone and a port-a-loo)...

amount of people ive seen just hitting the cars infront and behind when trying to park is unbelievble , its like its the norm and they don't give a monkeys
as much as i hate to say it you just have anything nice , park it elsewhere if you can , maybe a towbar if its the rear that keeps getting hit?

Supermarket car parks are what curse word me off people in a zombie like state opening doors on our cars denting and chipping paintwork! I've had it a few times. I once parked up my xr2i on the line of an end space so as to leave plenty of room for the car next to me, came out got in my car, driven home and then noticed a wacking great dent in my drivers door!

Not especially cheap, but they certainly have a good range for universal stuff, and they have precisely what i had in mind.
