I've recently bought a 1.8 XR2i with a suspect knackered engine (project thread will be started on here soon) but does anyone know if the 1.8 Zetec Efi engine fitted to a 92 XR2i the same block as the early Silvertop zetec 1.8's in the mondeo's?
The look the same apart from the manifolds but can they just be swapped from my original engine?

I believe they are the same but you will need to swap a few bits across. There's lots of info and photos in my website (Escort Upgrades section) but from memory you need to swap the water pump and its pulley, sump and oil pick-up and the oil pump due to the angle of oil filter flange.

There the same. You'll need to salvage the following from your old engine.
Flywheel and crank position sensor Water pump Sump and oil pick up The inlet and exhaust manifolds *** do not change the oil pump, use a renault 5 gt turbo / clio 172 oil filter, this will clear the chassis leg
All of the above also apply to the 2.0 engine. Which is what I'd be looking to instal.
If you can find a HO inlet from a Rs 1800 or 130ps xr3i then this is also a worthwhile addition
