Hi My trusty old car stereo had died, and it was a long time ago I last went shopping for one. I have previously used the same trusty sony unit in every car I have had for 10 or so years. Quick look on eBay and it's completely flooded with the new style media only units - and I spotted a bluetooth/sdcard/usb head unit for £15 delivered. Less than last nights takeaway for two! - Made sure the seller was actually in the UK and pressed Buy-it-now. Three days later, here it is. My old unit has become wedged in the BMW so I set it up in the garage to try it out. Found an old 12v psu from an old router and wired it up. I was expecting something totally useless, but was really quite surprised - especially when I opened it up! Great hiding place for ... umm ... sweeties. Powered it up - One of the things I really cannot stand is blue led anything. I am colour blind and this awful shade of blue I find more annoying than most people as I see it a lot more vivid - and I don't even buy a TV if it has a blue light on it. This one I made sure was red in colour. Really amazed at this for the price. Bluetooth works flawlessly, it has a remote control that can skip and pause everything on your phone including spotify, has two rca outputs and powered 4 speakers really well. It looks a bit naff but with some special paint remover I can take off all the curse word from the front (MP3/SDCARD text etc) and make it look much sharper. Word of warning though - It's covered all over in protective plastic wrap that is a curse word to take off, and when you take it off it removes the wiring diagram with it. Also it only comes with bare wires. No ISO adapter, so you will need a spare connector unless you are one of these electrical tape and scissors hedonists.

Link to my purchase www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271830500382Got the price wrong. It's £16 delivered. Hope that doesn't put anyone off. To get rid of the Bullplop text around the facia, going to use a dremel with a polisher & some metal polish or t-cut. Tried a magic sponge but the sponge, it do nothing.

I have to agree with ElWoody above, I bought a cheapy off ebay. Similar to yours but no bluetooth. The slogan on the box "You here for a good time not a long time" should have been a giveaway. Modified the loom to fit it in the golf; The sound once in the car was awful. The instructions and box say you can control bass, treble, ballance and fader but once installed these functions were unavailable sou couldnt be improved and I sent it back. Now I have the Aldi bluetooth unit, £25 and sounds good. Coupled it up with cheep ebay automatic aerial. Dave

Can you use these with an iPod via the USB socket? Or is it best to just create some playlists in iTunes and export to a USB stick (I've got loads of 4GB ones lying around)?

I plugged mine into some household speakers and the sound was excellent - They are all manufactured by different people but I think they share things like buttons, metal cages, cables.
I am very happy with mine - Bluetooth streamed music worked a treat. Now to play with a great little utility for android called 'llama' to see if I can get the phone to open spotify and start playing when I get in the car.....

I needed a new head unit for my merc as the standard unit was doing my head in and at one point considered a cheapy eBay one but read too many negative reviews about sound quality.
Glad this one has worked out for you man

Second person in a week to recommend llama to me. I was previously using a geo-fencing app to remind me to do things (pick up my son, for example) on the way home from work but this has potential for that and loads more. Let us know how you get on.

People try to say £5-10 via going with wanky connectors but I have never seen a car with the radio working correctly. The ignition being wired up wrong is the main one as are the speakers almost never being wired up correctly (out of phase, all completely incorrectly wired. On my Porsche 944 S2 the lights used to turn on the radio which was quite laughable .
