Is it a fabric or vinyl type shelf?
Years ago when I was very young and still at school I used to wok weekends and after school in a garage that sold cars on the side. The amount of trim pieces I painted, carpets, parcel shells and carpet like trim pieces was crazy. I remember at the time we used to use a cheap Matt black rattle can under the arches and that's all we ever used on the carpets. Seemed to do the job. All be it very cowboy.

It's a fabric parcel shelf, but the can of black car paint seems to be the winner wish me luck this weekend
